Murphy is a poor politician but he at least tries.

Johann Lamont is not only the worst Scottish Labour leader since Devolution but she's also the worst human being that's ever lived.

Tries what...to tell you he's not a tory? That's his mantra.

Jim Murphy for going from his 100 days in 100 towns to save the Union to then claiming he isn't a Unionist in less than 6 months, will say anything to win a vote. Also is seemingly diverting funds for the whole of Scottish Labour to try and win his own seat, simply to keep his snout in the trough.

ETA - Special mention that he could actually lose his own seat as SLAB leader, has this ever happend before?

Yeh he was ok, not sure what he stands for now. He was championing a yes vote, but saying he was voting No. He bigs up the SNP all the time, but says he wont vote for them. Very strange?

I always got the impression he was angling for a return to politics if Scotland voted yes.

I'm going to go for Iain Gray. I was asked around that time who the Scottish Labour Leader was and I genuinely had no idea.

Having a big lead in the polls overturned, then the SNP actually gaining a near impossible majority is some feat.

Edit: So many to choose from though. Incredible how shit the standard at the branch office is.

It's generally accepted that Labour have had a succession of completely useless leaders in Scotland for some time now. The latest crop make Dewer, McLeish and McConnell look like some trio of political colossi. They've only really been included for completeness.

What followed them has been a shambles...

Wendy Alexander - remember her? Almost faded from all recall without a trace. Will only be remembered for being utterly bitch slapped by Gordon Brown over her referendum 'bring it on' and being rag-dolled by the newly installed FM Salmond at FMQs.

Gray - The man who let the SNP win a majority in a 4-party PR election. His disastrous campaign let a Labour lead become an SNP landslide when people realised he had no personality, no charisma and possibly no brain.

Lamont - Yet another 'place holder' who could barely do that adequately. A complete no-mark of a leader who had to be sidelined during the referendum, probably because nobody knew who she was. Her only positive was savaging the party after being pushed out.

Murphy - Heralded as the man who would stop the rot. He has presided over a biblical collapse in Labour support in Scotland and may well be the first Labour leader (along with Ed of course) to lose a GE in Scotland in living memory. All hypothetical of course. Labour could pull it back. Stranger things have happened, but not often.

Wendy Alexander was at least brave, so she'd be the only one to get pass marks from me. McConnell was thick. Lamont was genuine but local council standard; Murphy's better quality than her at least.

Dewar was a vitriolic streak of piss.

I voted for the Grayman. I think a great deal of Labour's issues stem from his time. Kudos for him managing to manufacture an SNP majority in a parliamentary system designed to specifically avoid such an outcome. Simply outstanding!

Combine that with genuine LOL moments such as the subway/killing fields incident and the not to be forgotten Haddington count, where he shifted spoilt ballots into his pile before seeing them replaced by the returning officer in a bawhair pyrrhic victory which undoubtedly set the tone for future labour patsies.

I've no idea whether it was his idea to leave his shadow cabinet off the list vote, but he was "leader" and has directly led to a Z team offering f**k all opposition to the SNP.

What a guy.

Yes, this is pretty much my thought. He's the personification of Labour's Scottish parliament problems, someone who probably shouldn't have ever been higher than a councillor and ends up nominal head of the party north of the border. So painfully out of his depth. Jim Murphy, as unlikable as he is, at least has a vague grasp on things. But Gray lead the SNP to get a majority at Holyrood and that's staggering.

Donald Dewer - Too young to remember anything. Sound guy for getting the parliament and all that.

Henry McLeish - He wants to be in the SNP so bad but is a Labour dinosaur.

Jack McConnell - Lord McConnell of Glenscorrodale to you and me. Ermine robbed jobbie-stain.

Wendy Alexander - No-mark.

Iain Grey - Only have three memories of him. Firstly getting chased into Subway by pensioners. Then that creepy smile gif from the debates. Lastly him hunched over the table at the count desperately hanging onto his seat by the slimmest of margins.

Joanne Lamont - The least said the better.

Jim Murphy - There are some native tribes in the Amazonian rainforest that have had no contact whatsoever with the modern outside world. Even they know that Jim Murphy is c**t.

Dewar a sound guy for getting the parliament?

He fought against it in 79, agreed to it as a way to prevent independence, signed away six thousand square miles of Scottish sea the night before parliament opened and said if Scotland was independent it would be like Bangladesh.

Fascinating really that you can go back twenty years and find that - arguably - the worst SNP leader was John Swinney. But he was an intellectual and political giant compared to the best of that slack-jawed list of Labour councillors.

Swinney is a top bloke. Brilliant at what he does. Just not a party leader unfortunately for him. But as you say so far ahead of the majority of the list of slab leaders

There is no such thing as the Scottish Labour Party.

No one in Scotland will have the option of voting for the Scottish Labour Party in the GE.

It will be on the ballot paper. It shouldn't be but it is allowed.

Murphy by a landslide. He has now become a parody of himself.20-30 years ago he wouldn't even have received a nomination to stand as a Labour councilor.

Swinney had a lot of personal problems when leader which meant he couldn't give it his full attention. However, he would probably be the first to admit he wasn't a natural leader.

However, he has stuck with it and gone to make a massive contribution to public life in Scotland unlike half those Labour chancers who slink off to the Lord's or high paid "research" or "consultancy" posts.

Joanne Lamont is a Dementor with a lisp, she sucks the happiness out of any room she walks into. A horrible, sour woman. At least Iain Gray provided daily entertainment, much like Jim just now.

Personality and charisma of a damp beermat though.
