Labour 272. Tories 273.

Yet Jimbo reckons they can do it without help from the SNP.

:lol::lol: :lol: :lol:

With a bit of luck the only help Jimbo will need is in finding a new job.

Tories 273

Labour 272

SNP 51

Lib Dems 28

DUP 9

Sinn Fein 6

UKIP 4

Plaid Cymru 2

SDLP 2

Greens 1

Independents 1

Speaker 1

Assuming the speaker and his deputies remain the same and removing Sinn Fein we have the Tories on 272 and Labour on 270 with 321 needed for a majority.

Labour would need 51 for a majority, so a Labour/SNP "coalition" would have a wafer thin majority of 1. Counting on the support from the Greens, Plaid Cymru, SDLP and Sylvia Hermon they would have 327 MPs giving them a majority of 14. Still slightly too close for comfort. If they wanted a more stable arrangement they could reach out to the Liberal Democrats and form a rainbow alliance of the left (probably excluding the 4 tiny parties). Lab/SNP/LD would have a majority of 58

The question is would Labour be willing to take office from second place if the Tories get more votes and more seats? The daily mail would have a field day that's for sure

I really don't see why not. If the Tories don't have enough seats for a majority but others do combined, then they should form the government. Gordon Brown tried to form a Goverment from second place last time round and Miliband/Cameron will be doing exactly the same this time, no matter what they're all saying just now.

It looks more and more likely that Ed will end up Prime Minister after May 7th in my opinion.

Largest party will have the moral right to try and form the Govt. Based on figs above its unlikely Cameron could. Ed will have the next shot, he can and will. He will crawl on his hands a knees to oor Nic for her support. Nic will make him stew but eventually put him in no. 10. Murphy will look like an utter c**t -again- as the largest party wont form the govt... he will lizard off and return for Holyrood debates

Probably a stupid question, but if no government can pass a Queen's speech (or they do but quickly lose a no confidence vote), but two thirds of MPs don't vote for parliament to dissolve, what then happens?

This statement really gets on my wick. On what basis is there a moral right?

It may be custom for this to happen but moral? The implication here is that if a smaller party tries to form a government it is somehow immoral. Really?

There would be no Government and the civil servants would run the country. Belgium was in that situation for over a year with no serious problems.

P.S. Peter Hennesey explains it well here. Start at 42 mins.

Post-debate, Scotland only poll by YouGov/The Times out at 10pm on Thursday.

This will be a very interesting poll.... because it will be the first scottish only poll thats fieldwork will fully cover uk wide debate, the Telegraph pish, and both scottish debates. I predict SNP will still have c.15 point lead on labour, and will be sitting c. 45%

Replace moral with 'first shot' then fix the surrounding grammar.
