Democracy: The Illusion of Choice

Recommended Posts

What's winning the 2007 and 2011 Scottish elections got to do with the referendum.

Even poorer effort -2/10

How much do the big uk wide parties REALY care about that? unless scotland actualy does declare independence then i doubt they give a shite. the scots parliament can only decide on essentialy small and localise matters. yes it can set budgets and pass laws but its just a grade above county council level realy. big decisions on big tax like corporation tax and mineral mining revenues, defense and foreign policy are taken in london. the snp have all their big hitters in scotland. labour the torries and the lib dems have all their big guns in westminster. they thro the odd jim murphy from time to time.nothing more.

They care alright. Devolution happened to try and counter the SNP and the wider nationalist movement. It was also set up so it was highly unlikely the SNP would ever win a majority in it. They fucked up and in 2011 their worst nightmare happened. The whole world knew that if the SNP/pro independence coalition ever won an outright majority then a mandate would have been delivered for a referendum. And so it came to pass. Now the genie is out of the bottle, as a direct consequence of Scotland falling out of love with the Westminster parties, to the extent that it is pretty much inevitable independence will happen.

I'd like to see you prove your point about me promoting violence, doubt you'll find any evidence of that.

I doubt you will actually find a post where he accuses you of promoting violence. Read it again.

When you promote groups that lead to the spread of fascism and increased violence against sections of society, aye it is.

Well no one would be happier than me if that happened. But i bet theyr hoping to weather the storm and hope the nationalist surge dies down. Think part of the idea of the scots parliament was to curb nationalism and keep the scots happy so they just f**k up and do as theyr told. As long as we dont actualy vote for indy (and we need about another quater million or so votes ) then they coudnt realy give a shite who runs our nhs and schools. The unionist parties have fielded second and third rate politicians in the scots parliament. Besides murphy who isnt even in yet. None of the rest of the unionist block would get selected for westminster. The browns alexanders and kennedys of this world arent interested in fannying about in our daft wee regional assembly

Your first point I undoubtedly think that this is the case. They have thought it since 2007. The only way Slab will ever recover is by completely separating from the London Party. Then where does that leave them?

I think you are being a bit harsh about the standard of politician. Yes there are some absolute roasters particularly on the labour benches and to be fair on the government benches as well, but remember a lot of these people would never have been near getting elected, had Labour's list policy been different. They were there just to make up the numbers. Quite a few experienced labour politicians lost their seat in 2011. Things Might have been different had they still been in the chamber, but we'll never know.

Democracy in its simplest form is the privatization of power. Policies do not win elections, money does. Presidents and congressman win on larger funded campaigns, not promised policy. Whoever gets more money almost always wins. Who donates? Lobbyists who represent the interests of the Establishment. These donations will be paid back by the politician in policy suited to Establishment interests. Establishment interests almost always oppose the interests of the citizenship.

Democracy is the illusion of choice and it's why you are less likely to rebel.

Does anyone today still not know this?

Even with the massive dumbing down of the public and entertainment spewing from every angle politics is still clearly a giant scam. Power does what it wants and always will

George Carlin and Bill Hicks said it better than anyone

Stalin murdered many millions (including Jews) more than Hitler. Mao and Pol Pot murdered millions too. Totalitarian socialism - National (Nazi), Marxist, Trotskyite, Maoist etc - inevitably leads to gas chambers, concentration camps and the killing fields. Democracy is not perfect but its better than those murderous alternatives.
