Democracy: The Illusion of Choice

Recommended Posts

Democracy in its simplest form is the privatization of power. Policies do not win elections, money does. Presidents and congressman win on larger funded campaigns, not promised policy. Whoever gets more money almost always wins. Who donates? Lobbyists who represent the interests of the Establishment. These donations will be paid back by the politician in policy suited to Establishment interests. Establishment interests almost always oppose the interests of the citizenship.

Democracy is the illusion of choice and it's why you are less likely to rebel.

Copy & Paste job off an american site imo. The capitilisation of the Establishment would suggest some kind of Zeitgeist one too.

As Winnie said:

No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…

Nicola Sturgeon, there's plenty of threads to argue about the referendum if you want to.

What's winning the 2007 and 2011 Scottish elections got to do with the referendum.

Even poorer effort -2/10

The OP is a bit overstated, but I agree with the basic gist of the point.

We're supposed to just accept that because we've had a vote, we've no cause for complaint.

The people we elect don't do our bidding - they tow/toe the party line, and do what they want, as opposed to what we want them to do.

The vote is a bone that's thrown to us - in this sense, it's illusory. In fact, if you're in the minority, it's an implement of torture - your opinion means f**k-all, but it's ok - because you voted for it.

Trolling? I'm trying to open up a discussion about democracy, a system that sees the people making decisions on our country despite only getting about 20% of the votes.

There are many types of democracy, it's not just one system.

Any other fascist groups you're a fan of? Roaster.
