Explain Mr Fixtures Man

Whit a load of feckin drivel, the juniors is struggling for fans...what we don't need is pointless games..we need real competition, genuine 50\50 matches no the walkover you get in Sectional cups...why would a potential " customer " pay full whack for a glorified friendly ?.

You could use that argument against ANY cup competition ANYWHERE in the world at ANY level of football.

Grasp your ears firmly & remove your head from your arse.

Every club at every level will have fans who turn out for the trophy hand out and the glory hunting if there's no other word for it . As for senior teams being able to lose fans ? Well if one is lost then its too many surely regardless of level?

You can't ever slate these people who only turn up for the trophy wins as they're damned if they don't turn up and damned if they do at times .

If Ayr for example reach the Scottish cup final then they're taking over 20,000 to hampden , the day we were handed the league title at Bellsdale against talbot we had over 1,100 at the game and today against petershill we will probably be having only just over 200 fans with a good portion being from petershill . This is the nature of the beast as the other 900 people were there for the moment when we won the league and lots were various generations of families who were out to grasp the feeling of community in the town that given day.

Lots more were friends and family of our players who correctly wanted to soak up the occasion .

The point I'm making is that all things being equal today entertainment wise between Kilmarnock v st mirren at rugby park at £20 for visiting fans or £5 for petershill fans at Bellsdale then I think that there is far more value in the latter.

Wouldn't you agree?

Regarding fans, the fact remains Juniors can afford to lose them the least - they have a far lower public profile than any SPFL equivalent and thus losing a single fan has far worse consequences than for those able to pick up more casual fans in a week than most non-league clubs have regular fans. Our non leaguers are spectacularly bad at the task of attracting fans and keeping them (indeed there are some inverted snobs who like it that way, yet expect the world and his wife to bail them out when the inevitable happens & their club cannot pay their way).

"All things being equal today"... but that's what makes your point so redundant - they're not. If they were, Killie wouldn't be charging £20, would they? If we're going to go down that road of comparision, let's at least take it to its logical conclusion and compare with other activities with all things being equal too - whereupon an afternoon at Bellsdale for £5 entry is less value than sitting in your house or the pub watching the English Premiership where it's warm & where there's all the comforts you could want, or playing five a side with your mates down the local 3G where you're not merely a passive spectator.

There are very good reasons why the Juniors are struggling for fans, & until they cease this "this is Junior football, wha's lik' us?" mindset they will keep on haemmoraging what fans they have left to other distractions not interested in the football world's equivalent of Beamish.

The West has to go to a 16 team league set up and to do that the Ardagh has to go.The West of Scot Cup should go as well. What is it with junior fans and cups ?

How many times have managers come out and said they were using the Ardagh to try out players, formations etc before the leagues begin, why do we play friendlies then ?

Hertha..Ladeside made the semis of the Ardagh..has it helped us..not a bit..we are struggling to stay where we need to be in the top division...winning a tin pot trophy will never compensate for relegation

Waffen,

If you're someone who actually wants to be at a football match then £5 is excellent value. You can't really expect much better when clubs have costs to cover.

No-one's being ripped off when they're only being asked to pay a fiver every other week. If something else is your preference then fine, but no-one's being driven away from the game by being charged a fiver a pop.

If you're arguing that the likes of Killie are driving fans away by charging £20 a go, then I agree with that. There are cheaper and more entertaining alternatives when the prices are that high, but not when they're a fiver. Charge any less and your non-league is simply an amateur league.

Okay, let's ask the obvious question here - if no one's being ripped off being asked to pay a fiver, why are so many Junior matches so utterly empty?

If £20 is such a rip off, why did almost 5000 turn out to watch that Killie vs The Midden match - 100 times more than attend many a Junior game, even though they were asking for four times the price?

The fact is the general public feels otherwise about "value for money" where the Juniors are concerned, & too many meaningless games in Mickey Mouse cups don't help.

Cumnock have played 2 more games than us and we haven't played Kilbirnie at all yet so guess what fixture is out for next week whilst we sit idle?

Cumnock v Kilbirnie,you couldn't make it up !

Incompetence doesn't even come close to describing the shambles that masquerades as fixture arranging in Junior football.

It goes on and on! The 3rd Jan was our last scheduled home fixture! If we get a home game on the 28th, note I say if that will be nearly 3 months since our last one. Grow some balls man and explain this one.

As for the Bankies not having a game do you just pluck the fixtures out of a hat. You are a disgrace and should resign NOW!!!

Thing is, attendances across the board have never been much better than they are now - bar the post WW2 boom when they went through the roof. While Killie enjoyed great crowds in the 40s, 50s and 60s - I can provide figures if interested - those days are way gone. There are other things to do for people.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see the figures. Couldn't find anything reliable when I tried to research it a while back!

I agree, there are other things for people to do but such high prices (for the senior top tiers, I mean) make the choice to do other things an easy one. There's the old economics argument of 'opportunity cost' - what's the next best alternative to what you're about to spend your dosh on?

At £20 a pop, there are many more opportunity costs than with lower gate prices. Clubs are actually incentivising people to look elsewhere for something to do.

At lower prices the opportunity costs are much less, as in: what else could I do for a fiver, what's more entertaining for a tenner, etc.

Any clubs or years you're particularly interested in?
