One issue that doesn't seem to have been mentioned on this thread is that contracts are up on June the first I believe.

Wrong.

Unless they are the finish of contracts in excess of two years which were signed before the SPFL was created. That wont be the case for too many.

If we stick with this, there's a chance to find out once and for all if Hibs would prefer promotion or winning the cup.

The Hearld seem to disagree...

Then the Herald is (generally) wrong. All contracts since the SPFL came into being have been required to run to 9th June. All loan deals do too unless the players contract runs out before that which is possible if he signed it pre SPFL. I guess McGeouch may have done so but it is an isolated case. If clubs own players have contracts which expire before the playoffs finish they can short term extend them which is what we had to do a year ago when we made the playoffs after the whole squad had been signed on old SFL contracts. It is a pain in the backside but its not the impossibility the press are portraying.

There may be a problem with a very small number of domestic loans where the player in question has an expiring contract from his parent club signed more than 18 months ago. I suspect McGeouch is probably the only player so affected if indeed he is.
