The SNP fail in target seats in the South and South West of the capital, but also pick up the North and East ends of the city. The last Tory MP in Scotland has been defeated in Dumfriesshire. In Galloway, Labour, the SNP and Tories are all claiming victory. A SNP activist has been found dead in the sports centre toilets, result delayed indefinitely. Brilliant results for the greens in Edinburgh. What They Said Nicola Sturgeon: A dark day for democracy in Scotland. I suspect foul play in Dumfries. David Mundell: A sad day for conservatism in Scotland. Patrick Harvie: Increadible response in the Capital, hopeful for next year. Kyle
Interesting. SNP are 1/10 to win Ayrshire North, some have SNP out at 1/25ish. You can get 7/1 for labour there. Is this built on anything other than instinct, ie local knowledge?

Just a bit of a hunch that Katy Clark will be able to carry one of the better personal votes from across the spectrum, both some Tory tactical votes and some lefty type votes. I've said all along there will be a handful of places that buck the trend, this is one of my sneaky Labour holds.

WaffenThinMint
Seat 32: Paisley & Renfrewshire South 4. Scottish Socialist Party 5. Liberal Democrats No, no, no, this is you just wet dreaming here. The Lib Dem candidate, Eileen McCartin MBE is a very well known local councillor who has been around for three decades and has stood for the seat three times (once when it was Paisley South before the West Renfrewshire seat was carved up to prevent the SNP taking it in 2005) with a solid local support. The very reason they're standing her is to stop their vote from collapsing to the point they lose their deposit - & to be fair to them, it should work. Labour, the Tories & the SNP have all tried to take her council seat over the decades & failed miserably - her self-built support base is too strong. In 2011, she took 1783 votes in the Holyrood elections, virtually the same as her Renfrewshire Council vote. In the 1997 by-election, she was famous for 15 minutes when she made a prize c**t of the SNP's Ian Blackford (this year's candidate against Charles Kennedy) in the TV by election special by asking him about a local swimming pool closure, got him to say he'd do everything to fight for its retention, only to be told there was no plans to close it, she'd made it up on the spot to prove he hadn't a bollocks what was going on locally as he like Dougie Alexander was an "imposed" candidate on the area (the by-election btw was called in the wake of Gordon McMaster's suicide, which also drew attention to evidence of local Labour Party leaders involvement with Ferguslie Park gangsters, & "jobs for the boys"). By contrast, the Scottish Socialists in this area had one minute of fame this year over Dougie Alexander hijacking Sandra Webster's campaign over local hospital cuts, but blew it when Webster tried to pretend she'd only "just" joined the SSP because she was so impressed by them & that her campaign hadn't been the usual Trot "front" stunt - forgetting her own blog where she said she had "been privileged to represent the SSP at two hustings in the last week and one on the near horizon next week." back in 2012. In the last election they fought for this area - the West of Scotland regional list for Holyrood, they got only 201 votes - less than the Pensioners Party, the Christian Party and Arthur Scargill's Socialist Labour Party; never mind the usual lot (Con, Lab, Lib, SNP, Greens & UKIP); and less than their previous year's 375 votes for the Westminster seat. There isn't an ice-cube's chance in hell that Eileen McCartin will finish behind Sandra Webster. Zero.
Elixir
I'm sure the Liberals will be simply delighted to finish ahead of the SSP. Just terrific success for them, undoubtedly.
I'm Brian
Just a bit of a hunch that Katy Clark will be able to carry one of the better personal votes from across the spectrum, both some Tory tactical votes and some lefty type votes. I've said all along there will be a handful of places that buck the trend, this is one of my sneaky Labour holds. If the SNP don't win this they won't make any gains at all. It is as likely to go yellow as any seat in Scotland. Not even the Saltcoats loyal will be able to help Katy Clark. Labour were absolutely trounced here in 2011 and the candidate is the sitting MSP's wife.

I still think the SNP will win this, but Katy Clark has been a good constituency MP. I know one or two of the 'blue brigade' who are going to vote for her to try to keep the SNP out, so it might be closer than you think.
