First big COP26 announcement from Scotland: a pledge to extend the Celtic Rainforest.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.scotsman.com/news/environment/cop26-scotland-to-restore-and-extend-celtic-rainforest-as-global-leaders-pledge-to-end-deforestation-3442455%3Famp?fbclid=IwAR3jh2LKR3pkacCyWUsJZi0VoZtJ49q9qovkNYVnkH2lEUEm7ewbWtlUIlc

No details announced as yet, I believe, on how they do this. Can such a significant rewilding move be properly implemented in the long term without the presence of our top predators? Are going to continue using millions of tree guards and thousands of miles of deer fences? Answer is no. At some point the excuses made by the estates and Farmer Jim will fall on deaf ears.

Expect outraged call to Super Scoreboard demanding a Rangers forest.

Or we could just shoot the deer ourselves, get venison back into the supermarkets and restaurants, and help the economy.

If I were a stag I'd rather be shot from distance than ravaged by a wolf

[i'm not against reintroduction, just posing an alternative solution.]

You nicked that light fitting from the local snooker club, didn'cha ??

You wouldn’t believe the amount of times I’ve nearly lost an eye/chunk of skull of that light. Need to wear a helmet around the house.

I don’t see what’s funny?

Loads of things:

1) The primary measure of success for this company being financial returns

2) The continuing trend of extracting capital from the Highlands into the pockets of investors in the city under the pretence of ecological or climate action

3) Creating a business model solely based around exploiting Scotland’s abysmally regulated land market is bad ethics

4) Absolutely no focus on building communities in a part of the world suffering badly from depopulation. Instead, these “solutions” will be imposed on those who live there.

Plus the c**t is called Benedict.

Bezos, Gates, Soros, Branson et al have embraced climate change because it's going to be the greatest wealth transfer in history.

A name sure to draw the ire of the many Presbyterians on this forum.

Just over a week into 2022 and Alex Hogg of the SGA is already throwing his toys out the pram, this time over the Cairngorms National Parks 5 year plan to increase tree planting, deer culling and restrictions on game management. Imagine a National Park authority wanting to take steps to increase biodiversity levels across its park? What a ludicrous thought!

All legitimate gripes.

But what Benny is proposing is at least feasible under the current system and probably better than monoculture forestry, sheep farming and grouse moors.
