Bul21402
Let's hope that common sense prevails and that these people who dream up these great plans can start to realise that a football club isn't just " a Football club" - they are part of the central hub of a town/village and people use the club as a focal point and, in some cases, the club is the only thing that some folk have that keeps them ticking over. When you go about the many towns and villages in Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Fife etc that had pits/mines as there central focus, before those were taken away by the Milk Snatcher, you see loads of old guys , to this day, gathering at street corners etc to pass the time as they have lost the main focus that drove them. In this day and age, to take away the like of Brig o Lea from an area that is already not overly endowed with work prospects could see a decline in the population and a rise, unfortunately, in crime as a result Save Brig o Lea , at all costs
Brig O'Lea
Cheers Bul - we we intend to save it. It's a special wee place - one of the best grounds in junior football when it was modernised in 1964 and reopened with a floodlit match against Morton. Not long after that it featured in a sketch in the Lex McLean Show and STV broadcast highlights of a floodlit match in the late sixties.

airdrieman
Sorry, I live in East Ren and would have loved to have helped with this but completely missed it. I assume Brig O' Lea is here to stay? (Apologies if I'm wrong)
Brig O'Lea
The council now know we do not want to leave Brig O'Lea, we have great support in the village including the Neilston Community Council. We are moving on with our plans to create a community sports hub centred on Brig O'Lea with our partners Neilston AFC and the Neilston Wasps initially, our youth section that goes from strength to strength. We've had positive soundings from East Ren that they're willing to be supportive if we can show that we mean business in bringing Brig O'Lea up to scratch like a modern community club. We're at a difficult stage just now, trying to find trustees for the overarching Neilston Community Sports Club. Folk with expertise and/or business skills who are willing to give up time for this. So hopefully we can make a new future for Brig O'Lea. It's a ground that's played its part in junior football history, hosting the first competitive junior match under floodlights against Kilwinning Rangers on the 17th February 1965 and we appreciate the good wishes from everyone.
