Kicks off in Melbourne tonight.

Andy Murray joined in the men's draw by fellow Brits Jamie Ward and Kyle Edmund who came through the qualifiers.

Coming off the back of her 2nd WTA title Heather Watson is the sole Brit in the woman's draw.

Andy plays tonight against some Indian qualifier. Should be pretty comfortable

Sole Brit. Sole.

That some Indian qualifier is a previous Junior number one, and has previously won the Junior Australian Open. He has a very good serve, so if he is serving very well it could be a bit closer than you anticipate. Wouldn't be surprised to see a tie break.

You need to buy a new auto correct. It's making a complete aunt of you.

Novak is obviously the favourite, as he loves this surface and has won four titles here. He doesn't have that difficult a quarter but could meet either of Nishikori or Wawrinka in the semi final. Both beat him last season in the Grand Slam hard court tournaments. Murray, Nadal and Federer are in the other half of the draw. Murray is seeded to face all four opponents that knocked him out of last years Grand Slams. Dimitrov R16 (Wimbledon), Federer QF (Australian Open), Nadal SF (French Open) and Djokovic F (US Open). A very tricky draw but one that will test him to the full.

Although Murray has played only exhibitions (winning all six singles and winning two out of three mixed doubles) he appears to be quicker, more aggressive, more pop on his first and second serves and appears to be over his back pain. His ball toss still seems a bit erratic which made his serves easy to read last season. Depending on results he could be back in the top four after this tournament.

Wawrinka needs a very strong tournament as he could potentially drop out of the top 10 after this tournament.

A 6/10 performance from him. But his opponent is far better than his world ranking and hopefully now he is over his injuries we will see him move into the top 100 at least. Murray serve placement was very good, and the increased slice on his second serve will hopefully help him this year. His ball toss last night was more consistent, which bodes well for tougher opponents.

Went down a break (4-1) in the third set but showed some better tennis to get the break back and take the match in the tie break. Marinko Matosevic awaits in the next round. Tommy Robredo retired and he was a potential last 16 opponent for Federer. A lot of seeds in the womens championship went out including Lisicki and Ivanovic.

Boy wonder Coric was also beaten in four sets, but Aussie favourite Weekend at Bernie Tomic makes it through to the second round.

Watson, Ward and Edmund all go out overnight.

Both Edmund & Watson lost in straight sets but with Watson she was feeling unwell.

But with Ward who won the first set 6-2 before losing the second 6-0 was a break up in the third and also had set point in the tie-break before losing that set and then the next 6-3.

So Andy Murray is the last Brit standing again and plays Marinko Matosevic tonight in the 2nd match on Margaret Court Arena after the Women's Singles of Koukalova v Goerges.

Yeah she has had problems in the past with glandular fever but for this match she was complaining having dizziness & nausea.

Just read this on the BBC website about sportswomen's menstrual cycle by Annabel Croft.
