The Title

With the New Year derbies done and dusted (well except City-Preston which they moved to Wednesday; and the 'Academic Derby' which is next Wednesday) it's surely a good time for a dedicated thread on the title race.

Here, the actual table:

1 Edin City P14 38pts, +28

------------------------------

2 Gretna P18 36pts, +33

3 Spartans P16 28pts, +13

4 East Kilb P16 27pts, +17

5 Whitehill P15 27pts, +14

Here, to help smooth-out the games-in-hand, an alternative table by 'points-per-game':

1 Edin City 2.71ppg

----------------------

2 Gretna 2.00ppg

3 Whitehill 1.80ppg

4 Spartans 1.75ppg

5 East Kilb 1.68ppg

Here, by 'points dropped':

1 Edin City -4

------------------

2 Gretna -18

= Whitehill -18

4 Spartans -20

5 East Kilb -21

So - can anyone catch Edinburgh City? Who can challenge for the top 2 with its lucrative Scottish Cup bye? Who will win the league - and when?

What about maximum possible points:1 Edin City 74pts------------------------------2= Gretna 60pts2= Whitehill 60pts4 Spartans 58pts5 East Kilb 57pts

Was also pointed out today the last time city won the eos League Spartans had a decent Scottish cup run.

Fair shout to the Gretna lad on at 20s for the League they seem consistently consistent these days :D

Nine wins in a row. Ten next week might take us to the top of the league if city don't win on Wednesday.

There that's put the jinx on it now. :(

On a fantastic run Cicero and scoring loads of goals. Huge game at Meadowbank next Saturday.

Gretna did play well but it takes two teams to make a decent match. Vale certainly did not play like a team who don't have to look for 'off the field' problems.

Should be a cracker.

On another note, I hope our new minstrels are allowed into Meadowbank. They will try their best to generate an atmosphere within the stand.

It was hard for the vale today with only 12 players to choose from and a few off them under the weather.went it went to 2-1 I thught we might get another one but it wasnt to happen. Think things r getting sorted off field too which is good for the club. U get a great scran after the game at gretna too!

Gretna Ministrels will only be allowed in to Meadowbank if they're over 18 and look like this

As for the title, it's a marathon not a sprint, we'll take each game as it comes, it's a game of two halves, it's not over until the fat b*****d scores etc. etc.

Who you calling a gretna lad mate? Huge game for them on Saturday really disappointed to lose McGuffie but he wasn't there when I placed the bet so he was a bonus anyway.

Things are now set up for an interesting game on Saturday at Meadowbank. If City avoid a defeat then I would think the title is theirs. If however they do lose to Gretna 2008 who are on a very impressive run of results, well who knows. Edinburgh's backlog of games could catch up with them,

City have to play Wednesday night, which could play into gretnas hands for sat, having the fresher legs. If Preston can give them a game that is! But saying that, all the pressure is on Gretna to win, city I would say will win the league if they avoid a defeat sat

I wouldn't say that. I believe the pressure is still on City as the title is theirs to lose. The rest of us will be looking to profit from any slip ups that they might make. They do have a few difficult games coming up.

Excellent stats there HJ. Lovely as it would be to see Gretna do it, it really is the Lilywhites to lose now, & to be honest they've been the consistent front runners from the off & probably deserve it.

Yes, they have a backlog of games, but they also have the points on the board putting them on top right now. It would be a different story were they chasing front runners with games in hand & praying they don't run out of steam.

For Slytherin Spartans, the big Scottish Cup should be their priority. They're one win away from getting into the serious money, serious telly coverage round that would set them up for the next few seasons. They'd be mad to focus too hard on trying to retain a title in all honesty beyond them, whereas beating Berwick is more than achievable (sorry HJ!)

Not all at WTM, it's unusual to see the EOS Qualifying & City cups spoken of in such glowing terms these days.
