Wigtown - Fleet Start (Extra Time-Gate)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Following on from calls and emails to ourselves, I would like to clairfy matters regarding Saturdays Cup Semi Final with Wigtown.

Prior to the match, we provided the referee with our team lines. At no point was there a mention, or discussion held on what would happen if the game was to go to Extra Time.

At the final whistle, we believed the game would go to extra time, despite it starting to get dark, and if the truth be told - considering the circumstances of Wigtown being down to 9 men, we knew we had a great chance to cause an upset.

To our bemusement, the referee stated it would be straight to penalties due to the light. We protested this and actually advised the referee that he had not applied the correct rules of the South of Scotland to the game. We also mentioned this to Wigtown, who wanted it to go straight to penalties and would not discuss it further as it was their ground.

Email communication has been sent to the League asking for an investigation.

We fully believe that we have been hard done by - despite being beaten on penalties fairly - and have requested for ET to be played with the teams left at the 90th minute.

Thanks,

FSFC

Fleet star maybe have a point here, either both semis should go straight to pens or none at all surely?

I'll agree with you on that but the problem is that it would mean that the game would probably have to kick off at 1pm or both semi finals be played at neutral floodlit venues!!
