There's clearly reasonable doubt at least.

Even if they put the cops on trial, it would never end up with a conviction in an honest court.

Also, there's pretty much zero chance of getting an honest court in this case.

It's pretty clear the force in question is institutionally racist, as is pretty much every law enforcement agency in the US.

Still, with Rodney King it was clear the justice system let guilty men go free because they were cops. In this case it isn't cut and dried.

Does anyone know why they waited until the evening to announce the decision? From the footage they've just shown as breaking news here in the US, the shit is about to go down.

Just my total uneducated guess but maybe they were expecting riots and lootings and did not want it to happen during the day in case innocent shoppers and shop workers got caught up in it.

Reports now saying that the unrest is spreading over the country.

There be a lot of unpaid Christmas shopping going on right now.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/ferguson-michael-brown-indictment-darren-wilson/

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. attorneys prosecuted 162,000 federal cases in 2010, the most recent year for which we have data. Grand juries declined to return an indictment in 11 of them.

But newspaper accounts suggest, grand juries frequently decline to indict law-enforcement officials. A recent Houston Chronicle investigation found that “police have been nearly immune from criminal charges in shootings” in Houston and other large cities in recent years. In Harris County, Texas, for example, grand juries haven’t indicted a Houston police officer since 2004; in Dallas, grand juries reviewed 81 shootings between 2008 and 2012 and returned just one indictment.

'Murica!

Looters often seem to have a skewed view of what the high-value items are. Remember this guy from the London riots:

You can fill a shop with rice, add water, and then the goods and valuables come bursting out the windows to be simply picked up off the street. It's a little-known criminal tactic but highly effective.
