Cove on the Move

Cove have announced they will be leaving Allan Park at the end of the season - http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/sport/football/highland-league/cove-rangers-moving-out-of-home-after-66-years-1.687634

The council have backed plans for a new ground today - http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/news/local/cove-rangers-plans-to-relocate-backed-by-aberdeen-council-1.689879

I think it would be safe to say that a new ground wouldn't be ready for next season so looks like they'll have to find someone to share with.

Their new ground will be in the middle of nowhere. People might have made the effort to watch Aberdeen play in that area, but how many will make the trek for a Highland League game?

Their current ground is in Cove, so not much difference...

I guess most of the houses there were probably built after you moved to Coleraine so Cove would have been a dot on the landscape (even compared to Rothes and Brora) back in the 50s and 60s. If they aren't going to be the local Cove team a short stroll away from everybody in that village and want to be the second Aberdeen SPFL club down the road location is very important. Think Banks O' Dee have the inside track on that if they are ever allowed into the "pyramid" by being based between Torry and Kincorth.

Anyone going to a Cove game before the end of the season, mind yer wellies because the place is a tip now. Cove have all but abandoned the upkeep of the place, and did so months ago when word of groundsharing with someone else first went round. Who they'll move in with is still up for discussion. Formartine have spent big on doing up their pitch and are still working on it, Banks O'Dee probably won't answer the phone, Locos are too far out, and the Sports Village is probably full up.

The location at Calder Park is a pain in the hole for the folk who go to Cove games who actually live in Cove, but if there's plenty of folk in Kincorth and Redmoss who fancy football it'll be convenient for them instead.

Have seen Montrose mentioned on the ground share. Don't think there's an easy direct way to get to the site of their new ground from Kincorth on foot and they won't be on any bus routes, so they are basically going to be stuck at the edge of a large industrial state with little or no scope for a significant walk up crowd. Suspect any plans for car parks were linked mainly to Aberdeen's proposed stadium that was rejected by the local council.

Close to it and was going to be used for training by Aberdeen. Minus the Loirston Loch stadium what you have is a small ground on a narrow country lane that very few people ever go along. Cove have run out of options due to the need to get an entry level club license.

Cove's new ground will be on the two dark green fields in the middle distance if you go back from the end of the loch on the right hand side of the picture. Once people got into the habit of going to the larger stadium every second week to watch Aberdeen, presumably some of them might have also made the effort to go to a smaller one next door when Aberdeen were playing away given the near Dens Park and Tannadice level of proximity.

Banks o'Dee is the really obvious shout, it's even got 3G so no problem with wear-n-tear issues... but chat on FitbaNorth is that they hate Cove's guts over their rejection from HL a few years ago, when Banks were the stick-on candidate, so no-one seems to think that'll happen. But who knows. Pay enough and they might agree.

Pittodrie would be obvious in terms of fan convenience. But would Aberdeen ask a workable rent, and would they want 17+ extra games on it?

Chat seems to be Montrose (which has 3G) or one of the Aberdeenshire HL clubs. Neither are very good for Cove home supporters.
