However, due to the bad winter and number of cups, several clubs had a fixture "backlog", and for the first and to date only time participation was made optional. Of the 23 EOSL clubs just 5 opted-out - Whitehill [EOSP]; and Gretna, Peebles (who didn't have a backlog!!), Stirling, & Vale [all EOS1]. EDIT: It it worthwhile to recall that (IIRC) neither Stirling or Gretna had operating floodlights at that time. Both of them and Vale were also embroiled in a tough battle for promotion.
