The Storms & Severe Weather Thread

Checking the progress of snow and ice in the Northern Hemisphere, there has been a significant covering of snow in eastern Europe during the weekend. Both Bulgaria and Romania receiving significant levels. Gabrovo in Bulgaria having 35hrs of continuous snowfall.

How relevant all this to us is how quick the sea ice up in the Arctic grows and how far away the progress of the snow is to us to see how far away winter is. According to the sites there has been more snow earlier in the year this year than last. This is from a couple of days ago and it will be interesting to see how this compares over the next few weeks post-18134-0-98773300-1414365870.png

We should be alright as long as we still keep getting our weather from the Atlantic following the gulf stream and as it seems recently the jet stream which still sits to the north of us http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=jetstream;sess=

While winter has arrived already for some, for us some believe we are heading for summer like weather this week like the Daily Mirror are predicting a halloween heatwave. Is 20c regarded as a heatwave?

Maybe this new super weather computer brought in to improve weather forecasting might help.

Ladies and gentleman, the date is the 28th of October and the Express warns we are all set for an ARCTIC FREEZE.

I predict this will be worse than last year's ARCTIC BLIZZARDS THAT BROUGHT BRITAIN TO A STANDSTILL.

Yellow warning out for rain on Thursday:

Strathclyde, Central Tayside & Fife, SW Scotland, Lothian & Borders.

Hopefully the dry weather over the last few days has allowed river levels to go down again and we don't get flooded.

Snow and Ice in the Northern Hemisphere 9th Nov and we can see how much difference from a week ago.

Looks like large gains in Finland and now Norway.

Compare with this time Nov 2010 when a month on from that the beast struck and temperatures plummeted and we had a huge dumping of snow. Going by the current snow and ice chart we are further on where we were that year. Its no wonder there are worries that this winter is going to be one of the worst.

2010

and end of November 2010 two weeks before the beast struck. Just look at the sea ice in the north which shows the sea temperature and how back then its quite similar to where we are now.
