The Czech top flight has it's last round of fixtures this week before the reduced winter break, Normally from early December to February, This season the league will resume on the weekend of the 16th January.

Slavia were informed last week that all players and officials had failed Covid testing and the remaining three league games of this year were suspended indefinitely, The match with Zlin was the first of the three, however, with no players showing symptoms and a negative test  returned, they have been allowed to return to training and playing. Sparta have also had games postponed but the league has not became a farce as yet.

Slavia remain top, Sparta have dropped to third after last nights draw with Liberec. Plzen are currently toiling in 6th place.

This season so far has been all about two players, Lukas Julis at Sparta and Abdulla Sima of Slavia. Both have had impressive seasons in European competition as well as domestically.

Sima in particular has  exploded on to the scene and with playing less than 20 first team games has already been tipped for a move to the English Premiership during the new year window.

West Ham, who have already signed Soucek and Coufal have been rumored to be interested in goalkeeper Kolar, Sima and left back Boril as well as former Slavia player Alex Kral at Spartak Moscow.

The Czech league resumed on the 16th January, three rounds of fixtures and a midweek of re-arranged fixtures have seen Slavia increase their lead at the top of the Fortuna Liga to 12 points. Sparta have had a dismal run since beating Celtic and now sit joint second with Jablonec. Plzen had dropped to 14th last week but after a 2-0 win over Ostrava now sit in 5th, 20 points off top.

Since the return, Slavia have scored 15 times in 4 games but conceded 4. The same goals against for the 14 previous games. Abdulla Sima has continued his goal scoring form, with 3 goals in 4 games, Jan Kutcha, the 24 year old former Slavia youth player has netted 7 in 4 games including a hat-trick in the re-arranged match against Zlin. Slavia were 5-0 up at halftime.

The Czech transfer window was again mostly internal transfers. With Covid, many sides have gone with larger squads this year to help them fulfil fixtures, Slavia normally have 5-10 players on loan to other Czech clubs.

They have however loaned out 3 players to Mlada Boleslav including the most centre half looking player in Czech football Ladislav Takacs

Croatian forward Petar Musa joined Union Berlin on loan until the end of the season.

Very few cross border transfers occurred this window, Former Slavia player and Czech international Jaromir Zmrhal joined Mlada Boleslav on loan from Brescia and the Cote D'Ivoire international Simon Deli re-joined Slavia on-loan from Bruges along with Danish back Alexander Bah

Some well worked goals in Slavias 6-2 win against Zlin.

Any recommendations, looking for a kids Czech national team shirt aged 3-4, either an official one or some sort of supporters t-shirt, looking to get my son kitted out for the Euros this summerand for inevitably jumping on the Czech bandwagon when they dump us out in the group stages, any ideas? Have had a look online but my rudimentary  Czech doesn't seem to be identifying many options. Cheers @diegomarahenry @Menzel

Sportisimo is a big Czech sports retailer but their website says it has stopped shipping to the UK because of Brexit.

The PUMA website has them but I don't know what the sizes equate to.

The Czech top flight goes in to its final 8 games this weekend with Slavia 16 points clear at the top.

Sparta lost last weekends derby meaning that they have lost the last 13 games between them and Sparta. It ended any real hopes of them catching Slavia. They currently sit 17 points behind in third albeit with a game in hand.

Sparta had a decent outing in Europe this season but aren't in the same position as Slavia to retain players. The Czech league has risen in stature over the last few years based on the level of players coming out of it and Slavia's run in European competitions.  Adam Hlozek is one of the brightest talents in Czech football and is expected to make a big move.

Slavia's owners have been quick to sell any talent and this year will be no different, Sima, Kolar, Boril and Olayinka are all likely to be targets. Provod is probably the best midfielder in the Czech league, at 24 I'd expect him to be in the Premiership next season.

Kudela....at 34 he was more than likely to have another season at least with Slavia, Until his appeal is heard they are unlikely to announce anything on his future but I'd expect he'll be moved on in the summer. Looking at the amount of people calling Slavia a racist club for not sacking him, I can only assume most of them have never been employed.

The player denied any racism and the UEFA disciplinary report said there was no clear evidence of racism. This of course doesn't mean there wasn't any. So until that changed, the club had an innocent player on the books. Much the same way as Sunderland did with Adam Johnston, he was innocent up until the point he wasn't.

The UEFA ethics committee found him guilty, Slavia have been told not to appeal and the player has lodged an appeal personally. I wouldn't expect he will be successful and I think he'll have played his last game for Slavia.

Pardubice continue their Livingston like season, currently sitting in 7th, well clear of the relegation zone, Viktoria Plzen are still toiling outside the European places and look likely to miss out for the first time in several years. Pribram and Opava look all but doomed to be relegated.

In the Czech national league, Hradek Kralove look set to return to the top flight, Brno team SK Lisen are currently second. Dukla are in 10th and in a slight danger of dropping to the third tier of Czech football.

The Czech national team have released possibly the blandest away top they could. It’s smart enough and basic for the players but if this was Scotland’s effort and they were charging £65 for it, I could see there being an uproar.
Why does it have the name in English?

Cause it's a shite template thing they've also farmed out to Austria and Italy, I believe.

Sorry for not getting back to you, @Virtual Insanity - haven't been on P&B much the last wee while.

No problem, have sourced a top that's probably going to be a bit big but will do the job.

That strip is a shocker, usually a big fan of simple white tops but that one has a distinct third rate sportswear brand vibe to it.

Think it seems to be the stock design for Puma in the Euros this year.

@diegomarahenry Do you think Sima will end up following the likes of Soucek & Coufal and move to West Ham? They seem to have a lot of interest in him and Hložek of Sparta.

Yes, he’s looked fearless since he started and put in some good performances in Europe proving he’s not just good domestically.

think a big team will take a punt on him as a development opportunity

Listening to an interview with the Slavia chairman, Sima has a new agent and his head has been turned. He's more or less chucked playing for Slavia.

An offer was rejected for Olayenka and Kolar rejected a 12 million Euro move to the English premiership and is expected to move to his preferred destination of France.

Slavia have now tied up the league and won the MOL Cup, The Czech national cup competition. The final of which, was played at 5pm on a Thursday. The club have now sent all players potentially being named in Jaro Silhavy's Czech national team for the Euro's on holiday. They will miss the final two matches of the league campaign. Slavia have not lost a domestic game this season.

It will be another summer of players moving, Sima has reportedly left the club "in his head" Kolar will move to France and a bid for Olayenka was rejected as it did not meet the valuation the club has of the player.

Elsewhere, Sparta are continuing to stumble home in second place, being pushed hard by Jablonec. Viktoria Plsen unsurprisingly changed manager, Currently in 5th, 30 points behind Slavia, they have appointed Michal Bilek, The former Sparta and Astana manager who was the national coach of the Czech Republic for 4 years and also the Kazakhstan coach when they played Scotland in 2019.

At the bottom end of the table, Opava are relegated and it is between Brno, Pribram and Teplice for the final two automatic drop places. Due to the expanded league this season, three go down and one is promoted to re-introduce the normal 16 top and second flight.

Hradec Kralove will return to the top flight again, a regular yoyo team. Dukla had a fairly miserable season and are currently mid-table in the second flight and didn't mount any serious challenge despite finishing third last season. One of the Czech Republics oldest clubs, Slavoj Vysehrad, Who managed only one win and three draws in the whole campaign, finished 18 points behind will be relegated.

With one league game remaining, most of the formalities have been tied up in the Czech league.

Slavia and Sparta will both enter the Champions league, Jablonec will play in the Europa League while Slovako and most likely Viktoria Plzen will be in the conference. Plzen are 3 points clear of 6th place Liberic and have the same goal difference but Plzen head to bottom club Opava while Liberic host mid-table Olomouc.

Opava and Pribram have had their relegations confirmed while Brno would need a 14 goal swing on Teplice to stay up.

The Czech league player of the year awards were announced

Goalkeeper - Kolar (Slavia)

Defender - Kudela (Slavia)

Midfielder - Provod (Slavia)

Forward - Hlozek (Sparta)

18 year old Adam Hlozek prevented a clean sweep of Slavia players with 11 goals in 18 games, the top scorer in the Czech league was Kutcha of Slavia with 14.

The Czech Republic announced their squad for the Euros today, Kolar asked not to be selected due to his ongoing recovery, Provod of Slavia misses out through injury.

The squad looks very light in forwards and not many goals in those selected, they as always will expect goals from midfield with Soucek and Kral.

The Czech League returned this weekend, They start back early due to a two month winter shutdown but have only one national cub.

On the new signings in the top flight, Much like in Scotland, no massive global transfers.

Slavia have continued with a familiar trend of signing top emerging talent from he Czech league and signing Scandinavian players.

Slovak forward Ivan Schranz joined from Jablonec, Serbian Midfielder Srdjan Plavsic controversially joined from Sparta under freedom of contract, Nigerian midfielder Ubong Moses Ekpai joined from Cesky Budejovice, The goalkeeper who played against Scotland in the Covid depleted side in Olomouc, Ales Mandous joined from Sigma. Two Scandinavian players, Norwegian midfielder Mads Emil Madsen and Swedish defender Ailham Ousou and on Friday they secured the loan signing of Michael Krmencik from Brugge. So far they haven't lost any players but the signing of a fourth goalkeeper suggests they are expecting Kolar to leave.

Sparta have been very quiet in the window, only signing two players, Dane Casper Hojer and Czech Jacob Pesek. They have also managed so far to hold on to highly rated Adam Hlozek.

The majority of other top flight clubs have signed Czech based players including Plsen. One stand-out transfer for me was the return of former Czech international and Slavia captain Milan Skoda who joined Mlada Boleslav from Riezspor in Turkey.  He replaces his brother Michael, who left to join Cesky Budejovice.

Slavia signed their 4th goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky, 18 year old Czech under 21 international from Dukla Praha. He is the son of the ormer Czech international of the same name.  He was a regular in the Czech second tier last season.

How smart is the Dukla keepers top?

Very little inward activity at the end of the transfer window in Czech football, most of the business was carried out early. The biggest transfers out were from Slavia, highly rated 20 year old Czech international centre half David Zima moved to join Turin.

Abdula Sima left to join Brighton and was immediately loaned to Stoke. Sima was one of the biggest emerging talents in world football, Playing one game in the equivalent of junior football in the Czech republic, he signed for Slavia and was scoring in the Europa League within 6 months. He went off the boil towards the end of the season and the Slavia chairman said in an interview that his head had been turned by agents and he had left the club all but in body. This may have dropped the level of club he signed for ultimately. He is potentially the biggest player to have played in Czech football for some years yet no Slavia fans will have had the opportunity to see him in the flesh.

Injuries probably kept Slavia from losing Provod, Kolar or Olayenka.

Former Slavia player Alex Kral signed for West Ham, I expect he will be a top player in that team.

The league campaign has followed a familiar path with Slavia and Sparta leading the way, both have had a draw some decent victories in the first 5 games.

Slavia dropped from the Champions league to the Europa League, then rather embarrassingly dropped past Sparta and in to the Europa conference with Jablonec.
