The Czech leagues start back this weekend with a change to the testing protocol. Now only players who fail a Covid test will be required to quarantine. Several players, including four from Bohemians have failed tests this week.

On the signing front, there has been no real marquee signing in the Czech league so far, Sparta have signed Bulgarian Martin Minchev, the remainder are Czech players on free transfers including former Sunderland player Ondrej Celustka.

Plzen and Bohemians, on a similar track have also made only internal transfers

Slavia have been reasonably lucky this window in that they have not lost any players of note, there are rumors that Leeds and a couple of other clubs are after Romanian midfielder Nicolae Stanciu, a player who was signed from Saudi football and initially looked like he'd been taking it easy for a couple of years, but finished the season as the top player in Czech football. The £20 million loan/potential transfer of Tomas Soucek to West Ham was confirmed during the summer. Again, all Slavias transfer activity was internal Czech business. The biggest of which was 19 year old center half David Zima for £1.3 million. Manager Jindrich Trpisovski signed an extension to his contract until 2025. He has been a target of several Russian teams in Recent months.

Slavia went back to scoring goals last night after the 1-1 draw with newly promoted Pardubice, taking 5 goals off Teplice. 2 of them were in the fortunate category, one was an absolute peach. Slavia have now scored 15 goals in 4 games, conceding twice.

Tonight, potential Motherwell opposition, Plzen are away to Bohemians, both have had mixed starts to the season and it should be the game of the weekend.KO 6pm UK time. Sparta play Zlin on Sunday.

Slavia exited the Champions League last night after a 4-1 defeat to Midtjylland. Slavia led 1-0 up until the hour mark but the match turned on a harsh penalty for hand ball, The original penalty was saved but had to be re-taken after Slavia Keeper Kolar came off his line a matter of inches.

In the aftermath of the game it was announced that Slavias right back, Vladamir Coufal will join West ham for £5 million. It is a strange move, he is 28 and a Czech international but he has been at fault for a few goals in Europe over the last few years and always struck me as a player who would do well domestically but not move up a level.

With Coufal leaving and Michael Frydrych joining Wisla Krakow it highlights why Slavia are now entering the Europa League, losing several top players every window and hoping that Trpisovsky can find gems domestically can surely only last so long.

In recent times, left back Boril, Midfielder Stanciu and forward Olayinka have all been linked with a move to the premiership and Trpisovsky was linked to a couple of Russian teams.

Slavia were fortunate to beat Ostrava yesterday afternoon, The home team dominated most of the game and looked very good going forward. They have former Slavia keeper Lastuvka, who is a complete liability and normally has at least one calamity per match and yesterday was no exception. Ostrava thought they should have had a corner and completely lost the plot, in the confusion, Tecl was sent 1 on 1 with Lastuvka who took him out and was lucky not to get a straight red.

Sparta kept their 100% record with a 2-1 win at home to Jablonec, their keepers face saving a goal bound effort. I am a fan of Jablonec's away top.

Plzen continued their indifferent form with a 2-2 draw at Olomouc. Bohemians continue with their mid-table form beating Zlin 2-0 at home

That's their old place. Seen them play twice there. Next door is one of the biggest stadia in the world with a ridiculous capacity.

Slavia go in to tonights match with Nice with a horrendously under strength team due to a combination of injuries, Covid, squad registration issues and a child being born. Currently they have  two wingers as full backs, 3 players who have not started a match and only 4 players that would be considered regulars in the starting line up.

The Czech league continued it's stop/start progress this weekend. after a months postponement it returned the week before the international break for a round of fixtures before the interruption last week.

The season started on the 21st of August and in the 13 weekends since, only 8 rounds of fixtures have been completed.

Sparta went in to the government mandated break with a 6/6 record and were sitting two points clear over Slavia. Since the return, they have lost twice, once to Plzen and again today, losing 4-2 at home to Dynamo Ceske Budejovice. Plzen also suffered a defeat away to Zlin. Plzen are currently in fourth, six points from top.

Slavia have now opened up a four point gap over Sparta and have a far superior goal difference, helped by a 6-0 victory over Opava at the weekend. They have been helped by the form of youngsters being thrust in to the first team due to Covid and injury problems, most notably Jan Kuchta, Oscar Dorley and Abdullah Sima. The return of Nigerian, Peter Olayinka has also been a major boost.

With a shorter season and a a bigger league, the winter shutdown has been shortened, six rounds of fixtures are due to be played between now and the 23rd of December. The sixth of December sees the first Prague derby of the season with Sparta at home.

Slava continued to the last 32 of the Europa League with a 3-0 win over Hapoel Be'er Sheva at in Prague. They top the group currently, tied on points with Bayer Leverkusen.

The result was impressive enough but the form of 19 year old Abdalla Sima since he made his debut has been astonishing. He played only two games for Tabor in the Czech second tier and was signed by Slavia and registered in the reserve team for this season. However, he made his debut in late September as a late substitute and has played a part in all three league games since, scoring twice. However, for a player who has played less than 10 league games professionally and only brought in to the first team due to injuries and isolating players, he scored against Nice on his Europa league debut, again on the reverse fixture and scored twice tonight and has been an absolute standout.

Sima continued his remarkable form tonight with another two goals for Slavia against Sparta in a 3-0 win, Sparta missed  first half penalty, Kolar keeping the ball out with his feet and blasting the ball against the chest of Julis and out for a goal kick. Slavia have retained the key to the city and are now unbeaten in 12 games against Sparta, 1724 days.

Slavia are now 5 points clear of Sparta and 9 points clear of Plzen, who suffered a defeat to 8th place Karvina
