One reason why it doesn't work, nice idea though it is - People. An independent socialist, republican Scotland. Here's a visual description of that nirvana. Centralised control of all functions, equality of outcome - or modern social democracy, as practices successfully in many EU countries - equality of opportunity, democracy, accoutnable. Sorry which part of that is not in people's minds? SWP are mentioned above - socialist and not likely to keep the monarchy which makes them republican. 4 regions voted for YES. Glasgow and N Lanarkshire were two of the largest in population terms, & which have significant Irish Catholic populations, who generally, but not wholly, are republican. Scotland as a whole is less impressed witht the royal family than Britain in general. So I am unsure why you don't think that would be what Scotland could be in a fairly short period of time after independence. An independent, socialist, republican country.
