Harper has basically been forgotten about by Malaga now. He's barely played since signing his pre-contract with Getafe. Was falling out of favour before that too.

Seems like there was an issue with Malaga wanting to use their option to re-sign him, but apparently they've settled on a £1.5m deal to avoid it going to a tribunal.

He'll be the first Scottish player to play in LaLiga since 1988 and maybe first in the champions league for a non British team since ???

It'll be interesting to see how a new manager looks at him for the September/October/November fixtures if he can get one or two starts for Getafe.

Alan Hutton played in La Liga in 2013.

Archibald for Barcelona and Ted McMinn for Sevilla both left in 1988 according to the papers.

Although, Wikipedia disagrees with this r.e. Archibald, saying he came back to play for Espanol a year later.

You're correct, I misread the headline. He is the first on a permanent deal since 1988.

Espanyol were in the second tier when Archibald played there in 1989/90. McMinn was the last Scottish player to appear in La Liga before Hutton - his final appearance for Sevilla came on 30th January 1988 in a 1-0 win away to Betis.

Paul Lambert, John Collins and Scott Booth have done so since then.

I presumed it would Lambert in late 90s. Forgot about Collins too.

Getafe are another step closer to CL qualification after they, Sevilla and Valencia all lost today. 3 games left.

One of Getafe's last three games is at the Camp Nou, which is probably a write-off even against a Barca side who have already wrapped up the league. The other two are home games against Girona and Villarreal, both of which are very winnable.

Good chance of them finishing 4th, though. Hopefully Harper gets a chance with them, but it's going to be a big step up.

Good luck to him - hope he kicks on. 4 goals in 26 games the 2nd tier isn't exactly  battering down to the door to get in the Scotland squad, but he has a much bigger opportunity now! Really hope he isn't going to be sitting on the bench every week.

He will score 4 goals there and because it's the mythical Abroad League there'll still be rockets on here shouting for him to get a call up.

Almost as bad as other roasters on here crazily dismissing players as "not worth keeping an eye on"

I think we can safely categorise this wee chump playing in front of a smaller average crowd than Falkirk as being not worth keeping an eye on.

Seriously? You didn't learn from writing off Bates?

It certainly looks like a cul-de-sac move, but he wasn't signed by Getafe for a million or whatever because they thought he was shite. There's a player in there somewhere. No idea if he'll ever prove to be good enough for Scotland but it'd be absolute arrogant madness not to at least monitor his progress.

Wouldn't respond to that fat roaster tbh

Even when it's about a league in a completely different country, a Falkirk fan will still find a way to have a crowdwank
