Songs with a story

Ohio - Neil Young

A fine but forgotten group from North Belfast,

Ruefrex - Wild Colonial Boy (Burgess/Coulter)

Well I'm the Emerald Isle`s own son,
I was born on Stateside, Wisconsin
And your troubles sound like Hollywood,
They sound real good to me

The rush to be Irish now is on,
The queue is standing ten miles long
And would be green men stand in line,
To swap their stories tall

Well I have traced my past right back,
I`ve even checked and double checked
And I`m as sure as ever now
That I`m a leprechaun

And I know that if I get my chance,
That I can jig and reel and dance
Well, in between the killing
That`s what all us Irish do

And now a word from our sponsor;
"eat up all your TV dinner,
open up your wallet wide,
and let your green be seen

A people cannot live that way
Or so the songs and leaflets say
And all this time we`re trying hard,
To keep the niggers down

What with collection time and all,
With charities, functions and balls
It really gives me quite a thrill,
To kill from far away.

1. And the band played waltzing matilda - probably most famously done by The Pogues

2. There is a light that never goes out - The Smiths, this one is debatable but there is an angst ridden story of sorts.

3. Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

4. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

5. Pretty much every Country and Western song ever.

There's also just about every Macc Lad song, my favourites 5 would be.....

1. Miss Macclesfield (with the timeless line "you get your knackers feeled")

2. Now He's a Poof

3. Buenos Aires

4. Fluffy Pup

5. Gods Gift to Women (managed to get the classic "she said I was good looking and I looked a bit like George Michael, but she didn't want a fookin' she were on her menstrual cycle" in)

For those unfamiliar with their august body of work, they're an eency bit un-PC and a bit dated now but some of their stuff is worth a listen, some a bit meh.

Rather than coming up with a Top 5, just going to suggest what I think is one of the greatest songs ever written. Billy Joel - Scenes From an Italian Restaurant.

Frank Zappa Stevie's Spanking

His name is stevie vai
And he's a crazy guy
Last november, I recall,
He needed a spanking

He decided then
A female specimen
Would be excitin' for a night
To give him a spanking

Laurel was her name
She came to notre dame
He told me just the other day
He oughta be thanking
Her for the spanking

She was large and soft
And she beat him off
Made him drool upon his dork
And gave him a wanking
After the spanking

Hair brush!
Oh! what a hair brush!
(it's not that he requires grooming!
Guys with light blue hair never do!)

Then she did explain:
There's another game
That we can play with this device,
And then a banana!

It was slightly green
Vapors in between
Rising up to fill the room
And cook the banana

She said it was dry
Stevie won't you try
To drool a little drool on it
And grease the banana

Later in the dawn
Laurel carried on
She got right up and dressed herself and
Ate the banana
