I’m not getting into a discussion about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not.  That could prove to be the most controversial topic ever on this Dundee thread and that’s saying something given the many previous questionable chairmen and managers we’ve had over the years!

I mean, it is a Christmas film, so there’s no need to worry about any controversy. 😉

McMullan in the Courier saying he's not heard a thing about a new contract as of yet.

Really disappointing that. One of the main reasons he joined us from United was due to them being a bit slow in offering him a new deal. I hope a similar thing isn't happening here.

He is by far and away our best player and anything short of a 2 year deal is a failure.

Where was he last season?

Decent winger who I'd like to have another crack at the Prem with but if he was to go it would be far from a complete disaster. Infact I'd still be wanting someone in to possibly replace him if we did go up. Remember McMullen was one of the main reasons we went up when McPake brought him in the January window and then played in a dreadful squad who were pitiful week in week out.

Our best player of late has been Ben Williamson who has completely controlled the centre of midfield in every single game; making the early calls against him look foolish. He's absolutely miles ahead of Mulligan right now which makes his contract situation simple aswell - sign for longer and learn your trade or piss off elsewhere and most likely fail big time.

Three of our best players this season have all been Bowyer signings - French, Robinson and Williamson. Nae neck has turned up the last month. I'd be confident we could bring in a good replacement if McMullen is to go but as his current purple patch continues its hard not to see anything other than a new contract offered.

For us to go up and be a top six club certainly doesn't rely on Paul McMullen or any of the current players (maybe bar Robinson) at the moment.

Thank you.

Absolutely. Did alright for himself assist wise last season. Considering we were shite and relegated, to get the most assists out with the OF players and 1 of Hearts' players is decent going:

Well said that man. 100% correct about Williamson, was very good again down at Ayr.

Everyone was shite last year. I agree re Williamson and Robinson but I’d have McMullen in the top 3 way before French who has been badly exposed by over committing himself on too many occasions for me. Not saying he’s shite by any means but Nae Neck has been absolutely magnificent and totally revigorated under Bowyer.

French is my player of the season so far. McMullan playing well just now and would probably be 2nd best so far but he’s very frustrating at times the amount of times he gives easy passes away. Would defo be offering him a new deal regardless of what league we’re in next season.

68 points usually wins this league. After the win at Ayr it’s the 1st time all season we’ve been level with the required amount. Hopefully kick on now with 10 of the remaining 18 games at home with Queens and Partick in January.

Queens game is massive at this stage. Can't wait.

If Partick, Morton, Queens or Ayr really think they can go up, then offering McMullen a pre contract deal would be a smart play. It’s happened to us before - Hamilton signed Derek Lyle on a PCA when we were competing with them for promotion in the 07-08 season.

As others have said, McMullen is playing well and is the Maradona of the Scottish Championship, but I don’t think any of us are sure he will be that effective if we get back to the Premier League. We need him this season though and the benefits of promotion more than pay for a new 2 year contract (with the 2nd year being optional)

We probably can't, and certainly shouldn't, go up with pretty much the same squad we have (McPake's fatal error) but at the same time shouldn't be looking to completely reboot the squad.  Probably guys like McMullen would fall into the category of those worth taking up and replacing over time.

We had Dom Thomas on a pre contract last season meaning when we played Dunfermline in the playoffs he was an unused sub on both games (in which Dunfermline didn’t score a goal in either leg)

One of the many amusing things about our eventual promotion to the championship

I think that regardless of how much of a retool happens between now and next August, there are about 10-12'ish players that you could justify keeping on for a Premiership season. Williamson and Robinson, even though neither is our player, French, McMullan, Gowser for his experience, I'm not really a fan of Anderson or Robertson but they merit it on youth, Mulligan definitely, Cameron, and maybe McGhee, maybe Sweeney, Sharp, oh, and maybe McCowan because I think he's too young to give up on completely just yet. Frustratingly inconsistent, but it might be that he's one of those who doesn't really fully hit his stride until 27-28.

Everyone else I think is firmly in the 'could do better' camp and would really be nothing more than squad filler. They're either not doing it at Championship level, so can't be counted on to do it in the league above, or they've been up there before and been completely ordinary/failed. I'm not sure about Rudden. He's a pest, but I don't think he has the ability to score goals in the Premiership, so I'd hope he'd be pushed down the pecking order by signings who are an improvement.
