I cannot believes anyone is seriously considering Hartley.  What is it you see in him that no other chairman of any other struggling club sees in him?  (I’ve not heard any rumours of any half decent clubs being linked with him).

He was given a relatively large budget and still admitted after the Hamilton game that he had no idea how to get his players (players he brought in)  playing in such a way that they could beat a Hamilton team that cost far, far less to assemble.

Was the manager of that Hamilton team Martin Canning?  Whoever it was he totally out thought Hartley.

IMHO Hartley is not the great team builder nor is he as tactically astute as some like to suggest.

My own personal list of acceptable candidates and not necessarily in any order:
Tommy Wright
Paul Hartley
Morten Wieghorst
Noel Blake
Jim Duffy/Barry Smith dream team.
Stewart Petrie
Jocky Scott (Temp only)
Gordon Strachan

You’re just playing with my head Ludo.

Hartley, Weighorst, Blakey, Duffy, Smudger and Jocky can GTF as far as I’m concerned.

Tommy Wright
Stewart Petrie
Peter Grant
John Robertson

Wright is more than proven, Petrie has done a fantastic job at Montrose and both are happy to live locally. Grant has done a decent job at Alloa, has had a long, varied and successful coaching career and has tonnes of contacts (plus he’s a cunt).
Robbo has been more than decent at ICT but he may fancy a move, it’s ever decreasing circles up there and he’s answering to the granny robber.

I’d love David Robertson for the lol’s but I’m not seriously putting him forward.

Just for my own personal amusement, we should start the Jamaican sensation on Tuesday.

Yep, in goal for the young man hopefully, couldn't possibly do any worse, could he?

On a more sensible note, let's rest Sir Charlie of Adam on Tuesday and also get a true reflection of where we actually are this season.

As if Mr McPake / MacKay would be brave enough, I think not somehow.

Charlie is currently single-handedly (unfortunately) preventing the dismissal of the above pairing, again merely imho.

PS, worth noting if Hearts win their game in hand against Alloa, we're then 7 points off the summit after only 4 games played, oh dear!

Imagine telling Morten to GTF and it not just being the Greenock variety.

Let’s remember him as a very fine player and a really nice guy. His managerial career has been up and down, he knows feck all about our league - all the hallmarks of an utter disaster.

I've not counted McPake's awarded 3-0 win vs Forfar in the stats, but it doesn't make a difference to anything.

James McPake - GP: 39 W: 15 D : 11 L: 13 WR: 38.46%

Jim McIntyre - GP: 31 W: 4 D : 7 L: 20 WR: 12.90%

Neil McCann - GP: 65 W: 22 D : 8 L: 34 WR: 33.85%

Paul Hartley - GP: 138 W: 46 D : 37 L: 55. WR: 33.13%.

John Brown - GP: 39. W: 18. D : 8. L: 13. WR: 46.15%

Barry Smith - GP: 102. W: 39 D :27 L: 36. WR: 38.24%

Gordon Chisholm - GP: 21. W: 8 D : 5. L: 8 WR: 38.09%

Jocky Scott - GP: 65. W: 31. D : 13. L: 21. WR: 47.69%

Alex Rae - GP: 97. W: 42. D : 22. L: 33. WR: 43.29%

Alan Kernaghan - GP: 37. W: 9 D : 16 L: 12 WR: 24.32%

Jim Duffy - GP: 142. W: 44. D : 38. L: 60 WR: 30.99%

Ivano Bonetti - GP: 90 W: 29 D : 21 L: 40 WR: 32.22%

Jocky Scott - GP: 95 W: 35 D : 18 L: 42 WR: 36.84%

John McCormack - GP: 47 W: 22 D : 15 L: 10 WR: 46.81%

Jim Duffy - GP: 137 W: 57 D : 42 L: 38 WR: 41.61%

Managers since I have been watching Dundee.

Jocky (1st), Ivano, Duffy (2nd), Smith and Hartley, McCann & McIntyre's records are skewed by playing in the top flight. Therefore, discounting them then it ranks:

1. Jocky Scott (2nd)
2. John McCormack
3. John Brown
4. Alex Rae
5. Jim Duffy
6. James McPake
7. Gordon Chisholm
8. Alan Kernaghan

Taking into account Hartley & Smith's first division/championship only record would see them slot in at:

Barry Smith GP: 76 W: 36 D : 22 L: 18 WR: 47.37% - 3rd place
Paul Hartley GP: 14 W: 9 D : 3 L: 3 WR: 64.29% - 1st place.

Therefore, the only managers to have a poorer record than McPake at this level in almost 30 years are Kernaghan & Chisholm. Kernaghan almost certainly had a much, much lower budget than McPake and there's essentially a 1 win difference between Chisholm & McPake.

Last nights result see's McPake fall behind Chisholm with a 37.5% WR now. Only Kernaghan has been worse. Jeezo.

Great posting with the above managerial stats Ludo.

Remarkable to see the amount of managerial careers which effectively ended after their Dens Park tenure in your posting.

  • Jim McIntyre
  • Neil McCann
  • John Brown
  • Gordon Chisholm
  • Alan Kernaghan
  • John McCormack
  • Ivano Bonetti
  • And finally..................James McPake, I'm sorry to say and take no upcoming delight from.

Regards as always

I honestly can't remember McIntyre being in charge for that many games.

Professional therapy worked wonders for me to blank it all out, that and a fine malt whenever required.

Strangely enough, maybe coincidence if I'm honest, however mainly on any match day.

The joys of being Dark Blue.

Rae wasn’t as bad as he’s made out to be.

His football was the most entertaining. He had an atrocious eye for a player and couldn't manage the ones he did have leading to the whole squad breaking down.
