While we are waiting for our marquee summer signings to be announced, what about suggestions for the signing we've made that had the greatest unfulfilled potential? The player that, when his signing was announced, you thought "Yes, he will be a brilliant player for us" and then failed to deliver in the most spectacular way possible.
I'll start with Tom Hateley, Craig Burley and Phil Roberts.
Any more? (I'm not thinking of players who were pretty much unheard of and made no impact, but ones you thought would be a cracking signing and weren't.

Might be an unpopular opinion but Colin Nish should have been better than he was considering he was top 10 goal scorer in the SPL

We are linked with another winger, Glentoran player John Herron.

Wha? Eh, he's got some experience at this level at least...

John Herron, not a winger.

After us he went to Raith, done shite there and went to Glentoran, thought he was OK.

There's been a few over the years

Beto Carranza - When news broke that we'd signed him youTube footage of him scoring the South American goal of the season was circulated (he basically ran the length of the pitch and skinned an entire team before scoring). He was also seen as a bit of a free kick specialist. He showed some brief flashes of quality but ultimately didn't deliver on the hype. I seem to remember him scoring a fine free kick in a 3-1 defeat at Hearts and a penalty in a 1-1 draw at home to the DABs. That's about it.

Colin West - Signed around 1990 iirc, he was supposed to be a lightning quick, skilful winger. Sadly he never got going and became a target for the boo boys. He did however turn in a remarkable performance in the B&Q Cup Final win over Ayr United. He was virtually unplayable for much of that game and tore Ayr's LB a new arse.

Arthur Albiston - What's this? We're signing ex-Man United and Scotland legend Arthur Albiston? Amazing! Actually no, he's old, error-prone and slower than cancer. Fucking dire and one of a spate of atrocious signings in the late 80s. John Holt and Billy Kirkwood also spring to mind, although we had no expectations they'd be any good. They were fully expected to be old and shite and duly turned out to be.

There are probably dozens more I've forgotten about tbh

The free kick he scored against hearts was in a 2-0 win I think and the penalty against them was when we beat them 2-1, stevie Lovell scored the winner

Pen was def a draw. Didn't Lovell scored both in that 2-1 iirc. I'm positive Carranza fk was in a defeat. The only 2-0 win away to Hearts I can mind was when Jocky was in charge - Darius's double.

Beto's free kick v Hearts come in a 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle. The game where Lovell scored the winner in the 2-1 win over Utd at Dens shortly after admin, Nacho Novo equalised in the 2nd half after Charlie Miller put Utd ahead in the first. Beto's Derby penalty come in a 1-1 draw at Dens.

I actually thought it was another alias for you?

My previous accounts are listed below. All of which were deleted inappropriately by mods who wet their briefs. Any other alias comments are from the sad acts on this site (Boredumguy etc).

Thank you.

McPake admitting he has spoken to Kris Doolan and hopes to sign him.

Bit on the fence with this one only because we already have an ageing striker in Miller. I’m not sure why he was released by Thistle, never really paid much attention to the championship last season but looking at the stats, he scored 6 in 30 league games. Only going by what I seen of him in the premiership but if we provide him the service then he could do well for us as a stop gap signing. He’d certainly help improve Nelson as well.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Coup for Doolan, Waste of a wage for the club.

Does he not score like 1 in every 4/5 games? We need more than that.

Yeah just realised all that, get all the games mixed up tbh. That's what 25years of following Dundee does to the cabbage
