You understand why Griffiths ran 30 yards to kick a flare, which landed nowhere near him, into a crowd of people when he knew fine well the game was being shown live on TV?

And yes, this thread since then has literally been Dundee fans trying to blame others for it. The police will investigate who brought the flare in but that'll take longer than the Griffiths situation.

I 100% blame the St Johnstone fans. The fanny with the flare is the root problem. You’ve posted a link to a guy with 3 followers who’s posted next to nothing. I’m going to suggest the flare hit no one. Griffiths should be getting praised for returning the guy’s flare.

Totally this. Taking in flares is illegal, no outcry from the Sainties. As already been said getting extremely ’old firmy’. Never heard of self policing.

The young lads who take the flares in are complete fuds who are regularly criticised by the Saints support for being complete fuds, and who didn't go to games for years because of that.

If they continue this pish then they'll, once again, find themselves not getting to games.

If the flare had been aimed at the guy who threw it, and there was no danger to anyone else, I could understand this viewpoint.

Your absolute weirdo take that anyone I the stand is fair game to be hit with a flare because an absolute random they'll never speak to in their life threw it, is the sticking point here.

Griffiths wasn't "giving the flare back" to the boy who threw it, he was kicking at random into a group of folk.

Good.

It wasn’t 1 guy though was it, there was 3 flares. The correct way forward in Scottish football is to fire the flares back at the fannies who take them and anyone in the immediate vicinity is fair game. Toughen up or don’t go to games.

Can you prove it didn't go straight back to the guy who threw it?

Can you prove Griffiths knew who threw it?

If its the usual suspects then they sat further up the stand than where it landed.

Question: If anyone here had been told before the match one of the 22 players (plus subs) on the park would boot a flare into the away crowd and there was a £100 free bet on who it was, would anyone not have put the money on Griffiths?

(or Liam Craig)

Personally I’d have initially thought Paul McGowan, and after that it would’ve been a coin toss between Griffiths and Cummings.

This is a good point. Griffiths is a dead ball specialist and boys like that I’m sure could produce the same accuracy with any object be it a football or a pyrotechnic. Cannae teach it.

Griffiths’ reaction has already got the Americans tuning in. Win, win for the Scottish game.

We’re hardly going to sell the game abroad by saying St Johnstone host Ross County today in front of a baying crowd of 2200 fans are we. The Americans will be selling the game against Aberdeen by saying let’s tune in to Scottish football where the players rip the pish out of the away fans by either booting flares into the away support or sticking their heads on rival fans in the boozers.

I’m not seeing any criticism of the young team whatsoever. I’ve seen lots of ‘it’s good they’re back creating an atmosphere’ type posts. Honestly you’re pouring all the blame a poor guy with psychological issues. You spend 60 minutes shouting the most outrageous abuse at someone with mental illness, hoping to goad him into cracking, you throw rockets at him, he cracks and you start crying and calling the polis? WTF? #justiceforleigh

I've criticised them plenty of the years, and continue to do so. They're great because they actually sing but the downsides are massive.

If Griffiths hadn't reacted, and we'd got fined for the flare + fans lifted for it, I'd be applauding that decision.

A lot of our fanbase are completely blinded by them and I've no idea, they're generally just causing issues at every away game and it'll bite us all eventually.

He was at least 30 yards from where the flare was aimed. Absolutely no idea where this idea they were thrown at him has come from.

It’s a disgrace and embarrassment the way St Johnstone fans behave at games. No remorse from their club about endangering the players lives with flares either. Shite club, shite fans. Their whole fanbase  should be banned from all games. I reckon a 3 game ban and 100k fine to start with. Players must be protected.
