All things Dundee FC

There's been a few over the years
Beto Carranza - When news broke that we'd signed him youTube footage of him scoring the South American goal of the season was circulated (he basically ran the length of the pitch and skinned an entire team before scoring). He was also seen as a bit of a free kick specialist. He showed some brief flashes of quality but ultimately didn't deliver on the hype. I seem to remember him scoring a fine free kick in a 3-1 defeat at Hearts and a penalty in a 1-1 draw at home to the DABs. That's about it.
Colin West - Signed around 1990 iirc, he was supposed to be a lightning quick, skilful winger. Sadly he never got going and became a target for the boo boys. He did however turn in a remarkable performance in the B&Q Cup Final win over Ayr United. He was virtually unplayable for much of that game and tore Ayr's LB a new arse.
Arthur Albiston - What's this? We're signing ex-Man United and Scotland legend Arthur Albiston? Amazing! Actually no, he's old, error-prone and slower than cancer. Fucking dire and one of a spate of atrocious signings in the late 80s. John Holt and Billy Kirkwood also spring to mind, although we had no expectations they'd be any good. They were fully expected to be old and shite and duly turned out to be.
There are probably dozens more I've forgotten about tbh

My favourite memory of Beto was when he feigned injury at Dens so successfully that Ivano subbed him. He then jumped to his feet going mental he was being subbed when there was fuckall wrong with him.

Think you’re being very hard on Holt too. I thought he was a touch of class for us and I’d take a player like him, right now, on a heartbeat.

Colin West and AA - you’re spot on.

I just remember Holt being pish. Long time ago mind you. Billy Kirkwood's career was ironically ended in a home Derby against the DABs. It might have been that 3-0 gubbing where Coco clapped the c***s off.

Who is he?

Darren Young. Craig Burley lasted longer on the pitch on his debut.

A handful of appearances in 2 years due to "injuries". I was told at the time that the physio couldn't find anything wrong with him and there were rumours it was in his head.

Another in a long list of wage thiefs.

Holt got dogs abuse because he never made a positive pass. That and in his final season gave away 2 entirely senseless penalties.

I'd have Holt back in a flash though mind you. Think QOS got him. Decent bit of business by them.

Holty is back in Dumfries & has signed a 2 year deal with Queens.

Have we still only got about 6 players?
I wonder if McPake’s involvement with the youth team means we’ll see a different approach to recruitment going forward.
What would people think if this seasons priority was bringing through youth into the first team and not necessarily winning the league? Of course no one wants to see us consolidate a place in the championship but it may be wise to have the next few years in mind and not just this season.

It's shite, Tommy Young confirmed we're not signing anyone tonight.
