Hammerafc
Shanks is probably our best striker option at the moment in terms of a natural goal scorer. Get him in the team and give him a run of games.

Were a division 1-2 team though We are part time, have a fairly low budget, not had wages for part time players, but superstar championship level strikers who score 20 a season aint coming to a part time team. Playing long balls up to strikers who dont suit that style of play isnt working thats clear for anyone to see. Hilly aint Nouble and doesnt have the same attributes to do that role, yet we expect type of play from other strikers.

I know hes been diabetic for a long time, but the recent heart problem, lack of game time could potentially have meant that stepping down a level, going part time could work out in his favour both football and health wise ( which i sincerely hope it does ) In my mind a 30 year old Scott Allan in peak shape wouldnt ever be playing for us. But i think thats a one off, win win situation for both parties. But there are few of those situations kicking around.
1320Lichtie
Dick and Ian themselves said last year that we had a decent budget even in comparison to the rest of this division that budget will be much higher this time around the budget is not a valid excuse. Too many poor poor signings and gambles taken in important areas of the park
SotesBornalichtie
I keep hoping that Scott Allen will come good. But with three good Championship level players leaving, or wanting to leave, at the same time, there must be some discord in the dressing room. Scott Allen may be wondering if he made the right decision coming to Gayfield. With all the good work that the board has done outwith the playing side of things it must be disappointing for them, as well as us the fans, how the season has begun on the pitch. Sadly, if things on the pitch don't improve dramatically and we are relegated or even manage to stay in the Championship by the skin of our teeth, there won't be 1400 or more season tickets sold next season.

Doubt the dressing rooms unhappy or there’s bad blood there but I don’t think the usual strong dressing room bond we have had in previous seasons will be there or quite the same due to the amount of new arrivals and due to the fact a lot of the squad has come from out with Scottish football. There will probably be quite a big difference this year in there. Edited October 6, 2022 by 1320Lichtie
Smokerson
Dressing rooms buzzing when winning most weeks and on the flip side will be flat when at bottom of the league and not winning, thats the same at every level of the game. Need the right characters to get out of the shit we are in, its two wins away from being fine and looking up, but hard to see us getting us those the way we are currently playing, cant win games in our league with no focal point up front.

1320Lichtie
Have to say in amongst all my greeting on this thread none of it is directed at the club itself, the club have been fantastic and are still smashing it out the park, this latest update on players is also a good progressive step forward
RedLichtie86
Dick and Ian themselves said last year that we had a decent budget even in comparison to the rest of this division that budget will be much higher this time around the budget is not a valid excuse. Too many poor poor signings and gambles taken in important areas of the park Think one of the biggest issues the club has is the lack of any sort of recruitment team.In the lower leagues Dick and Ian had numerous cobtacts to get good players at those levels to build squads. But as we have got to the Championship and maintained this level, those contacts have become limited. But the club has had a hand in this poor recruitment too. Not having a youth/development side is further limiting our options. A youth/development team would be actively looking for new players from local clubs and released youngsters from bigger clubs.Members of the club have stated we dont run a youth/development side as the SFA funding is no longer there. We cant afford it. But if you have a look around dozens of clubs run a youth/development team. Albion Rovers, East Kilbride, Montrose etc. all run one. How can they afford to run one? Our club is not in the poor house anymore going by the bank balance so can easily afford to run one.Without a better scouting network to find and assess players the club is always going to struggle to bring in the right players. And at this level its very narrow margins for success and failure. And the fans would rather see one of their own youth players stepping up to the first team than a random journeyman (Nouble the exception)

Lichtie78
Having a youth team would be utterly pointless. How many players did we develop when we had one that were capable of playing L1/2 never mind championship level.
