He got about as many goals as Hilson with far far fewer opportunities. He's another scrapheaped youngster, and he deserved better. See also Dylan Paterson. Tattie36 Posted May 23, 2023 Share Posted May 23, 2023 We take a young, prolific goalscorer from the highland league, throw him in at the deep end (4 levels above what he was used to) where he does a pretty decent job considering. Then loan him out to the worst team in L1 and sell him to them without him ever getting a proper chance with us. There’s a lot more to with Paterson though think he’s got a few issue away from the club. He worked hard all over the park which is something we may need to discourage a bit and get him doing his stuff more in and around the box where he can score. This season just shows we can’t really take any passengers yes he has potential but we a good solid reliable squad. He’s far too inexperienced for the championship, no point bringing him on here and there if he’s going to be 3/4 choice which I imagine he would be. Mon now, Paterson clearly no up to level we’re needing and neither is Shanks. If they were both 25 years old and from South London you’d be saying the same thing. Shanks looked a better prospect in front of goal than Hilson in the very few starts he got. Certainly better than Komolafe, Olusanya etc etc etc. I'm really annoyed by this one. Why would any good young player sign for us? They don't get chances, they get thrown on the scrapheap, and our fans dismiss them when they've barely seen them. Neither are good enough so I'm not sure what point you are trying to prove, Paterson currently plays for a team in the 8th division of Scottish football. All the best Shanks. That’s a very good point. We would have been better off not signing him or Paterson in the first place as we’re not setup to develop young talent. Concentrate on signing guys with a bit more experience and are ready to hit the ground running.
