Are we really going to go back playing McCord and Whatley as a pairing without an anchorman behind them?

It would be absolutely ludicrous to go back to this, as it is proven not to work and restricts McCord massively.

It's one thing to have the quality of players we have in midfield/ up top currently, it's an entirely different matter utilising them properly.

Swankie is a good player so it's a good move for Arbroath in my opinion . Saying that £8k is a bit much glad montrose never got him if that's what he was going for.

Absolutely ludicrous?! Come on.

We played 4-3-3 7 times last year. Losing 2 of our 6 losses doing so?

Hamilton going into that back 4 will make us much stronger and Denholm will put in much more of a shift than Scott. Also played that as McCord struggled a bit with running the 90 further back, get his fitness sorted this pre season.

£8k is a bit steep but remember we raised close to £5k with the kit auction so that would pay a fair bit of the fee aswell!

Wasn't saying we didn't have the money but feel it could have been spent differently. That said it may play into the wage we are offering.

Yes - I would describe restricting what was/ is one of our best players by playing him in a role that doesn't suit his game is ludicrious when we have plenty of options and there is absolutely no need to do so. There were games last year where we struggled to create and one of the main reasons was McCord being restricted by being asked to play in a midfield two, which restricted his time on the ball. As part of a 3, he gets more space and time on the ball and can get further forward when he wants to without worrying as much about tracking/ marking his man as much when we lose the ball.

Ultimately if we utilise the players we've signed properly and add in a left sided defender and keeper as backup then we should be looking to push for the promotion play offs.

McCord was brilliant the whole season, not just from the start of March.

Come on, that's just pure revisionism. If he played like he did from March for the whole season, he would have been POTY, for the club and the League.

McCord was good the whole season though, not just when he played in a 4-3-3. He did only play that role in a handful of games too.

I understand the points being made but going way over the top with them calling them ludicrous I think.

The attacking players ahead of him now, will be Denholm/Linn/Swanks/Doris. Before it was Linn/Doris/Scott/Kader, big improvement there meaning well not be relying on him so much. Having ToB stepping in at the back and Hammy to LB will also leave us much more sound defensively with Whatley sitting.

Maybe Swanks and McCord will be able to take turns playing a wee bit further back during games, Swankie played very well in a deeper role at times last season too. The game against Annan in the home play off leg he was centre mid with Foxy (hardly any more mobile/defensive than McCord) and he absolutely strolled it.

Just think things are really over analysed at times. McCord has played in a midfield 2 his entire career before that wee spell further forward last season remember. If you watch highlights of his days at Alloa and even with us last year he was still very good in a 2. A good pre season in him and he should be good to go. Him and Doris weren't properly fit until a few months into the season last year.

Looking at your forward options and I'm getting jealous!

How will he fit in, logistically I mean? Surely McCord would play ahead of him?

Does it ever works bring back players to a club ? I honestly thought when I saw him at Forfar even when DC was there he was a wage thief. For Forfar to get £8k out of the deal and the biggest earner off the books is outstanding business ( so who will the undertaker fund now [emoji4] )

Doris and Hamilton both came back (Doris for the 4th time!!!) last year and both were excellent. Swankie is now in his 5th spell, in his last one we won the league.

Under DC in League One he was in the PFA team of the season in 13/14 and 14/15 so maybe he did infact earn his wages. [emoji12]

Doris and Hamilton blow the "players coming back" argument right out the water, both were outstanding last year.

This looks like a good deal for all 3 parties, Forfar get a bit cash for a disgruntled player, Gavin gets away from Bollan and Forfar and gets the chance to play in what looks like a good side and we get a good player who will be rejuvenated and motivated again.
