HibeeJibee
This new structure - born of the preceding EOS U19s League - gets underway at the end of the month. Although affiliated to the EOS League a majority of the entrants are actually Lowland clubs, and as there's a lot more traffic through this sub-forum it probably makes sense to base a thread here. Membership: http://www.eosfl.com/col.asp?cid=63 East Kilbride Edinburgh City Edinburgh University Heriot-Watt University Leith Athletic Selkirk Spartans Whitehill Welfare Tynecastle have plumped for the SYFA U21s, going by the SERYFA website. A good number of the clubs are also in the Scottish Youth Cup as well as Dalbeattie and Threave who I imagine are making-up teams especially. Personally I think it's a great development for football in the south of Scotland - moving things into line with the Scottish and Highland leagues who already have U20s set-ups... With most games being played on Friday nights, it should also give people a better chance to take-in some competitive football at the start of the weekend. Fixtures have started appearing in the EOS website... I wouldn't place too much credence on the exact days/times too far ahead, as a portion always seem to change in the SPFL U20s and frequently did in the old EOS U19s: http://www.eosfl.com/matches.asp?sid=6&cid=40&ResultsFixtures=fixtures&clid=All&refid=All&df1=&df2= Apparently the clubs play each other thrice in the U20s League and once in the U20s Qualifying League making up the balance. There's also a League Cup (i.e. for qualifiers from the QL), a Challenge Cup over 2 legs and a Knockout Cup over 1 leg, as was certainly the practice in the U19s. tamthebam
City should be worth a watch (as always). We've had great players come through our youth ranks over the years. The goalie, Billy, we've got on loan from Livingston looks a good player certainly..
HibeeJibee
I'm particularly interested to see how Whitehill fare, following their link-up with Edinburgh Southern. Spartans have put-up their full matchlist to March: http://www.spartansfc.com/u-20s-fixtures-and-results/ Edited August 21, 2014 by HibeeJibee
HibeeJibee
League starts tomorrow (Friday) night... 'pick of the action' looks to be the derby between Edinburgh City U20 and Spartans U20, 7:45pm, at Meadowbank Stadium. Over the wall at Meadowbank 3G it's Leith Athletic U20 v Whitehill Welfare U20s, 7:30pm. Completing the set is Selkirk U20s v EK U20 which going by SFA refs page looks to have been moved to Saughton Astro, 7:45pm.

parsforlife
Is it compulsory for licensing purposes to have a youth set up ??Believe it's "best practice" for entry level, so no basically.
ekok
Best of luck to all the teams as the new league kicks off tonight, particularly the lads at EK, Friday nights will never be the same again. Appreciate any useable excuses for being out ahead of a full day Saturdsy.
surely not!
Is it compulsory for licensing purposes to have a youth set up ?? It should be though IMO. If we are genuine ( and I mean as a nation/governing body) in trying to improve our game then I think it's a must. Lawson discusses it in his blog today with regard to leith and edin city and how more teams should do that- and there are others who have, but to progress we need to have it as a necessity.
Voice of (t)reason
Edinburgh City 0 Spartans 4 and "over the wall" Leith Athletic 2 Whitehill 3.
Rab B Nesbit
Edinburgh City 0 Spartans 4 and "over the wall" Leith Athletic 2 Whitehill 3. Great start from the young WW edging a good game. In a tight first half 2 quick fire goals from James Flynn and Declan Heron on 28 and 29 minutes put us 2-0 up. It was 2-1 at the break, John Scott Mercer made it 3-1 but a late Leith goal made it a tense finish. Next up is Spartans at Lasswade High School next Saturday. 1.30pm kick off I think it is. -

SBKD
The league is good in principal but players at the age of 19yrs old born in 94 are not eligible to play.
gaz1959
As with the rest of underage football. The qualifying date is 1st January 1995 for under 20's. This is laid down by the sfa and it is the same for the spfl etc. This is also the qualifying date foe the scottish youth cup. Teams can also play 2 overage players in league games for a maximum of 6 games as long as they are registered with the senior team. They cannot play in cup ties though.
HI HAT
Mornin all. First post, went along to Meadowbank last night and watched a pretty decent game. Spartan lads after their first goal 20 mins in took control. City lads resorted to long ball dont know if that was only option or instructions but the city no 9 seemed to be the only one troubling the spartans defence. 2nd goal seemed to spin away from city goalie into net after comming of defender. Second half carried on in same fashion. City keeper unlucky to give away a penalty, striker looked to have lost the ball, but thought the booking he got was a bit harsh. He redeemed himself by saving the spot kick. The Spartans lads were well on top and got two more goals would have been more but for some good saves by city keeper. Both teams will be looking forward to the season Spartans looked good all round. City fell out of the game after they lost the first goal. All in all enjoyed watching live football again.Could be a good league
ekok
EK v Selkirk was great match and standard very high . Selkirk 3-1 up at half time and worthy of a lead . Second half EK played excellent possession and passing game and final score of 5-3,did not flatter them . Most pleasing to see " reserves ' playing same style as first team and alteady some candidates for promotion to first team. Early days but very promising start .

Sharkey's Machine
Also took in the Edin City v Spartans tie. Very good fare on show, agree with previous comment regards City's striker looking dangerous, that said, more often than not totally isolated and well defended by a really impressive Spartans central defence, Right & left mids for Spartans looked the part IMO. Pleasing note for me was the manner in which the game was played with good sportsmanship from both sides as well as the technical areas. Will defo take in more games at this level.
HibeeJibee
EOS website shows East Kilbride v Edinburgh City as postponed, meaning the only game this coming weekend is now the Whitehill v Spartans derby. This now seems to be 1:30pm on Saturday at Lasswade, ahead of the 'big' Whitehill v Spartans derby in LL (3pm at Rosewell). Whoever wins goes top. EDIT: Incidentally, does anyone know the situation with the Dalbeattie and Threave teams I mentioned in the Scottish Youth Cup? Are they putting teams together from their own squads and any younger age-groups (e.g. U17s)? Or are they linking-up with a local boys clubs or school? Yes it's 1.30 at the new Lasswade High School 3G Hibbee. There will be a programme for anyone interested in such things.
