This supposition is starting to take a bit of a dodgy tone

She probably just told them she feels like an adult. Boom! Job was hers.

Lowering the tone and making reference to another thread. Huzzah!

That makes her among the most qualified people on the show then, given the array of stunningly thick ex players who spaff complete nonsense, struggle to put together complete sentences, take pride in being lazy incompetents who do no research and get audibly aroused when talking about Celtic and/or Sevco, who make up the on air workforce of the show.

I have a friend who has a uni degree in Journalism and quite a lot of broadcast experience.  He went in for a job at the BBC a while back and didn't get it.  Find it hard to believe she's managed to get a gig there with only a year of freelance journalism and a year at Glasgow Kelvin College.  She must be well connected or related to someone on the inside.

Did you ever consider that she gave a fantastic interview, whereas your friend didn’t?

Whatever and however she got the job lets just judge her on her ongoing performance not on ill-informed innuendo.

Remember that BBC Radio Scotland made  ex-rugby man John Beattie their main news anchor ahead of experienced (and good) professionals.  (They are currently in the process laying off a few weel kent news presenters). Don't know what qualifications he has other than the right BBC Scotland stuff.

He's now on the board of another radio station so I imagine he was alright.

Not necessarily. He could have given what he thought was a good interview but didn't quite hit the points or give the answers that were required.

Or he could have given a great interview but they went with someone else instead.

Unless you know that your friend applied for the same position and it was the exact same interview panel, then your comment about your friend isn't really relevant.

That's a possibility.  Does seems very strange though that someone with so little experience gets a role so quickly in what must be one of Radio Scotland's most listened to programmes.  It could be extreme natural talent, it could be luck, it could be both, but it seems such an unusually fast progression that one has to imagine that there's some other connection for someone to get so far so quickly.

So just like every other person giving updates on the show then? Who is Billy Dodds related to at the BBC? What's his qualifications and experience for the role? How about Allan Preston? Pat Bonner? James McFadden? Julie Fleeting? Derek Ferguson?

Why would somebody with no credible experience or indeed serious qualifications in journalism get to the interview stage at a national broadcaster in the first place? They aren't supposed to pick CVs out of the pile at a random: there will be a job spec/further particulars that this application would fall well short of at any credible organisation.

The idea that a company as large as the BBC can hand out jobs on the basis of 'giving a fantastic interview' is absolutely wild.

So what are you suggesting has happened, without having any knowledge whatever about this particular scenario?

The likes of Billy Dodds, James McFadden and the like will have been interviewed by folk from the BBC probably at least every other week for much of their career so they'd undoubtedly build a rapport with some of these journalists who'll give them a foot in the door when their football careers come to an end.  Not that I agree with that of course - Pat Bonnar's knowledge of everything outwith Celtic is pretty hopeless whenever I've listened to him but you can understand how it happens.

Its more prominent than being a Production Assistant, even if it is just lower league games.

As I have very little trust for BBC Scotland I naturally question their motives. They are a hive of cronyism, or at least that’s how I perceive them.

That's quite normal tbh. On Sportsound their uite stretched on OAM, so to give her a game is more than normal. If she'd been working for STV for that amount of time she'd be on TV at least 3 times a week.

She's also a pretty good journalist and does a lot of the online stuff. Give it a break.

the interviewer didn't expect any of this covid 19 stuff, and he certainly didnt imagine there would ever be such a thing as a ''digital christmas''.....no doubt had the objective of sticking his wang in her at the christmas party, there are still guys out there from the late 90's, not everyone is a WOKE white knight.

Jesus fucking christ.

She is doing fucking match updates on a shitey lower league match not anchoring the evening news. Its equally feasible that she is on no more money but just enjoys and is good at presenting.

If the geezer shagged her for that then I am fucked if I know what Biscuits had to do to get the gig.

I'm suggesting that a connection with someone already working at BBC Scotland has given the candidate an illegitimate leg-up in the application process. Which is roughly 1000x more likely based on the facts in the public domain than your 'the BBC interviewed everyone who got a one-year college certificate upwards and just so managed to unearth a broadcasting star at interview' scenario.

She has been fronting digital content for about a year for BBC Scotland  sport doing the hockey.

They are a tiny team so she probably just got asked to front it out of necessity.

From there it's hardly a huge leap to being asked to go and cover a game. I highly doubt there is any interview process or a contract. She will be freelance and getting about 100 quid for it. She might even be doing it on a trial basis
