Everything else you've said on the thread is absolutely bang on - surprising  for you ;)  And you're right, of course, about the number of players we had at our disposal.  What's more surprising is that, at international level, we punched well below our weight despite the wealth of players available.  We had some fabulous players available for both 1966 and 1970 but flopped.  Even though we qualified in 1974 (and still had some top class players) we embarrassed ourselves.

For 1966 we lost out to Italy , for 1970 we lost out to West Germany. Terrible , but nowhere near as bad as these days

Did MacKinnon and Greig not play centre halves against West Germany in 1968 ?

Embarassed in 74? The one mistake was not running up a big score on Zaire.  Bremners miss from about 3 yards out against Brazil was a huge impact on getting to the next round.

78 was notorious. A very strong squad with organisation and management on a par with 1954

Jock Stein favoured McKinnon over McNeil against Italy in 1965 due to the former being quicker !

Scotland did have more , great players in the sixties eg Greig , Baxter ,  Henderson , MacKay , Bremner , Law , Gilzean etc  so some Lisbon Lions would not be first choices

Remember also there was an agenda against '' Anglos ''

Between an agenda against Anglos and an agenda against Celtic The Lisbon Lions it's a wonder we were able to field a team...

Richard Gordon’s tears about Morton getting rid of dud managers are delightful.

Your pedantic outlook is more of a concern plus no one mentioned anti Celtic just you.
Oh come on. You're initial point was all about a possible anti Celtic agenda.

Referring to the SPL is quite simply wrong. It's not just a case of using a different name because it sounds similar. The SPL was a separate entity that ceased to exist in 2013. These guys are supposed experts paid to speak knowledgeably about Scottish football yet they can't even get the organisation right. It's not too much to expect.

Pedantic nonsense. Some folk still refer to the top flight as the SPL due to force of habit. It's no more significant than that. What's weird is that some other folk get so  wound up about it. It's just a name.

If there was a risk of getting it mixed up with any other sports’ Scottish Premier Leagues then the inclusion of the “F” would be crucial but there isn’t

The bit that annoys me is that having reunified the league structure they still call the 3rd and 4th tiers the 1st and 2nd

The only one that is allowed is calling Glen's vodka, Grant's. The name change definitely brought a taste change, for the worse.

My taste improved when they did that - I stopped drinking it.

You should have included 'champ' in there to complete your string of tired old cliches. 'It's just a name'...no, it isn't. That's the point. It's a different entity but just you keep ignoring that fact.

He'll be desperate for his Dundee Hibs team to get out of the Second Division into the First.

My initial point was about being annoyed with the way Jim Craig's answer to the question was just brushed off.
Nothing to do with an anti Celtic agenda, maybe you should listen to the podcast.
There was a famous saying by most Lisbon lions, 7 had fish and 4 had steak.

I'm with DA Baracus here. If 2 of the leading lights of the management/punditry fraternity can't get the name of the top flight right - or get pulled up for getting it wrong - it's a poor show.
I suppose it's not as bad as calling it the "SPFL".

John Hughes and Jim Duffy aren’t ‘leading lights’ but rather ‘dim non-entities’.

John Hughes and Jim Duffy referring to the Premiership as 'the SPL' numerous times and not once being corrected.

You listened to that programme and the thing you pick out is that?

I personally liked when Yogi, by far the worst pundit in sport, claimed James Wilson was a goal machine. Then Duffy pointed out he'd netted something like 13 goals in 5 years.

During the build up to our game with Slovenia a couple of years ago, Chic Young had us playing Yugoslavia.

If he was playing for Rangers as a striker that would have won him 5 YPOTY awards.......................
