I like this idea now. County (and everyone in the bottom outwith St. Mirren, and to a much lesser extent Motherwell) would be completely safe, whereas someone in the top six would be relegated.

By my calculations, everyone in the Top 6 can still end up with the Tattie.

If St J avoid defeat on Saturday though, that will eliminate the chances of both themselves and us ending up with the Tattie, thus allowing us to enjoy our final day encounter without the spectre of the spud looming large.

A last day Dundee derby for the Tattie would be nice.

I was trying to keep quiet about that, so as not to jinx it, but yes, it would be a triumph for the very institution of Hot Potato.

No, even if they lose their relegation play-off, this year's winner will be HP-free at the start of next season.

It goes back to the biggest loser on the opening weekend.

Yes- if Dundee Utd win either of their next two games, the losers will find themselves in a Potato match with Celtic.

However, as champions, Celtic will be protected from a relegation play-off if they hold the HP at the end of the season.
