Please find below the details of the 2014 Butterfly Club Challenge Trophy Match. It would be great to get as many junior fans to attend and/or provide their support as possible, and if anyone would like to share this information with others or post this information on club websites/forums then please do.

Ardeer Thistle are hosting the third annual Butterfly Club Challenge Trophy Match on Sunday 10th August 2014.

The feature of the day will be contested by a team of Glentoran Football Club legends against a Scottish Junior “Old Crocks” select, kicking off at 11.00am at Ardeer Stadium, Quarry Road, Stevenston. The Glentoran Legends were victorious last year but there will be a number of well-known names lining up for the Juniors as they attempt to get their revenge, all in support of the Butterfly Club.

The Butterfly Club aims to provide a holiday club for the children of James MacFarlane and Haysholm special needs schools to reduce their isolation, improve their quality of life and to support them to be able to take part in activities other children take for granted. They are a constituted, non-profit making voluntary community group and a registered charity, formed by the parents of these schools.

There was over £8,000 raised for the kids in last year’s event and it would be great if even more could be raised this year. For full details of the Butterfly Club’s work, activities and fundraising please visit http://www.butterflyclub.org

Definitely is for a great cause. I know Cooky is delighted with some of the donations already made ahead of the event by a number of local businesses and football clubs.

As I said before, there are a number of familiar names expected to turn out for the Juniors "Old Crocks" side, including:

Brian McLuckie (Cumnock manager)

Alan McTurk (Cumnock assistant)

Tommy Sloan (Auchinleck Talbot manager)

Darren Henderson (Hurlford United manager)

Mark Roberts (er... Ayr United manager, don't recall him playing junior, might be a ringer!)

Stephen Watson (ex- Rangers & Beith)

Jim Duffy, George Watt, Kevin Biggart, Alan Kerr (all ex- Kilwinning Rangers)

Managing the team will be Derek Cook & Jim Allan.

Hope to see plenty of people at Ardeer on Sunday morning!
