Elgindiamond
Jim Baxter first time round with the ‘Gers. Honourable mentions to Alan Gilzean and Kenny Dalglish.
NavyBlueArmy1876
Probably Wesley Sneijder or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, fantastic players
Cosmic Joe
Bobby Charlton at Bayview. Although strictly speaking it was against a Fife select. And he was wearing black and gold. Chris Waddle was pish, and we beat his mob 3-1. Acht, I'll go for Danny McGrain.
Oweny
Pat Nevin playing for Clyde against us. Terrific player . Unstoppable before he moved to Chelsea in 1983

an86
Wayne Rooney. Hat-trick in a pre-season game not long before he scored his big breakthrough goal against Arsenal. Mad to think of a top flight English side sending practically a first team up to play against a fourth tier Scottish side now.

rockson
Stan Bowles for Carlisle United in a pre-season friendly against Sons at Boghead in 1972. He just strolled through the midfield and nobody could get the ball off him. (That was also the game in which Kenny Wilson scored what I called forever after the £10,000 goal. He had apparently been on Carlisle's radar at a price of £10,000 and was sold to them later in the week for £20,000. Despite 20 appearances for them I think he managed to net only once.)

broomiesniper
Davie Cooper playing for Clydebank at Links Park in a B&Q Cup tie. Would have been one of his last ever games and he was unplayable
Life on Marrs?
For stature, Chris Waddle, but he was rubbish on the day. Best individual performance probably Lee Sharpe, there was a young lad called David Beckham in that same team, not sure what ever became of him though!

Yes, and if I remember he was only 16 at the time, and the reason they played us, was because our ex-player, Alan Irvine was at that time, the Everton assistant manager.
