HibeeJibee
Shetland won 3-0 away to Alness in the league on Saturday - and now find themself 4pts clear of Thurso and 5pts clear of Halkirk, with only 3 league games to play. However, Golspie who are currently 8pts behind have 2 games-in-hand.
mrman2011
North Caledonian League should be Highland League division
HibeeJibee
Clearly not going to happen when they only have 6 clubs, only playing 10 games, all of them based north of Inverness, and several playing on public parks. Orkney have got a fan who posts on FitbaNorth and interestingly he says the club is looking for a new ground, with ambition of meeting Scottish Cup criteria and one day moving up the leagues. mizfit
If they can reach the highland league or the likes of league 2 then they'll have certainly done well. I'd love a scottish cup away day there
Wilky1878
Think Scottish cup is a reasonable ambition to look for but progressing up the leagues could be harder in terms of fans. No league gates are split so they would rely entirely on a decent crowd at home. I don't know there figures for average attendance (maybe Someone Here knows) but I doubt It's much. An away trip to Orkney might be fun but if they did one day progress up the pyramid to say league 2 the novelty would ware off after a few seasons of going there twice a season and most people tbf would probably give up on attending away games there. This ultimately would mean the club losing money which could see them bust.
HibeeJibee
With their league match at Thurso falling foul of the weather a week past Saturday it's a home game v Halkirk which Orkney have to look forward to this weekend. After that they travel to tablepropper Sutherland United on February 14th. No new date seems to have been given to the Thurso game yet. Having 2 more games in hand, Golspie may finish their season after Orkney.
HibeeJibee
Orkney lost 1-0 at home to Halkirk yesterday and Golspie scored a late winner, having trailed 1-0, to beat Sutherland United. Standings: Orkney P9 18pts +14 Halkirk P10 16pts +5 Golspie P7 13pts +7 Thurso P8 12pts +11 Alness P8 8pts -16 Suther'd P8 0pts -21 Remaining fixtures for Golspie - Alness (H), Sutherand Utd (A), Thurso (A). Remaining fixture for Orkney - Thurso (A). Basically Orkney need to beat Thurso and hope Golspie draw or lose a game.
HibeeJibee
Last weekend Sutherland 1-2 Golspie Yesterday Golspie 2-0 Alness Thurso 1-1 Orkney Bad result for Orkney who have finished their games but only lead Golspie on GD. They must hope Thurso beat Golspie to send the title to Kirkwall.

Cyclizine
I think there's a continental style play-off if the championship is level on points in the NCL, rather than goal difference, so Orkney may need to play a decider against Golspie if Thurso win. LongTimeLurker
Careful what you wish for, if they get entry level licensing it could actually happen. Gilbertson Park in Lerwick would make for an interesting away trip.

LongTimeLurker
Where/when is that photo from LTL? Looks a great wee crowd? It's a public park in Lerwick where the top local amateur teams (called Spurs, Thistle and Celtic) tend to play, and the Shetland team usually plays its home games (in recent years mainly against Orkney, but in years gone also the Faroese before they got into UEFA and FIFA). Would need a bit of work before there's any serious danger of a Scottish Cup game being played there: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=60.154834,-1.15144&spn=0.009087,0.01929&sll=-33.318211,26.546441&sspn=0.244145,0.308647&oq=Gilbertson+park+lerw&t=h&hnear=Gilbertson+Rd,+Lerwick,+Shetland,+United+Kingdom&z=16&layer=c&cbll=60.154943,-1.151479&panoid=JTs0sL4jIzDGckoB4HbyEw&cbp=12,257.69,,0,13.21 but the Shetland team have been playing senior grade games in Highland League and North Caledonian league related cup competitions on the mainland in recent years.
