Radio 2 - Top 100 Greatest Guitar Riffs

Don't bass guitar riffs count for this?

If they did my vote would go to Jack Bruce for Sunshine of your Love.

Eta... Just noticed Sunshine of Your Love is listed in that Radio 2 selection. Presumably it doesn't matter that the riff was played on a bass, rather than a lead guitar.

Some odd choices in that list - Jet's "shop's own brand" version of Lust for Life?

No Stooges or Ramones?

Purple Haze instead of Voodoo Chile?

No 'Have Love Will Travel'?

No '21st Century Schizoid Man'?

Paranoid instead of Iron Man or War Pigs?

Enter Sandman instead of Seek And Destroy or Master Of Puppets?

The Trooper by Iron Maiden should be on it or possibly 2 Minutes to Midnight.

Most Iron Maiden songs have great riffs but 2 minutes has about 4 or 5 songs almost identical to it by other artists.

Maybe that's testament to how good a riff it is.

Everyone knows the Enter Sandman riff. I doubt as many people know Seek and Destroy and Master of Puppets though

True - some people would even say these guys knew it before Metallica did

The one band/one riff rule is a bit crap, no? - especially where Black Sabbath and Zeppelin are concerned

For me though, Back in black and Riff Raff by AC/DC. The first is almost universally recognizable as soon as it starts and the other is my personal favourite. (even has Riff in the title) ha

Both great riffs, also love the riff in Downpayment Blues ,Giving the Dog a Bone and of course Whole Lotta Rosie.

Also did anyone see the programme on BBC4 on Sunday night about famous riffs...pretty good ,think it must be on iplayer now.
