Hammyton
Can only be a good thing for the game. Competition is vital and this introduces it to the bottom of the league. The fanbase matters not a lot. Low fan numbers impact only on the home club, I doubt the 40 Clyde take to Turrif today will make much difference to Turrif. Competition is more important than fan numbers, any club dropping out has a way back in. My view is that the play off is too weighted towards the team that finnishes bottom of the SPFL. Hopefully that will change as the pyramid develops.
Ivo den Bieman
Everybody still happy with the pyramid system or is anybody wavering a bit on it yet? Yes, as always, I am totally fine with it. If the side finishing bottom of the table loses thier play off then they are not good enough to be in the league, and, tatty-bye. No one has a divine right to be in the league and at last the league place has to be earned oin the pitch. It should have been introduced years ago and the 10th place side is lucky to have a chance to redeem themselves- many would suggest that they should be papped straight out and replaced by the winner of the Highland v Lowland game, automatically. There is an intriguing forerunner of that play off- Edinburgh v Brora- coming up in the next round of the cup. Other than Brora and Nairn, and Forres, the Highland performances in the cup last weekend were very poor. Yes, I am aware that Montrose may fall foul of this- although we have had an alright season so far. But simply it is the right thing to do, and all the girning about tradition and "falling off the football map" should be dismissed out of hand. HibeeJibee
Best part of another month gone by. Elgin City remain bottom of SPFL2, but only by 1pt, and that with a game-in-hand. Really anyone from 2nd place Queen's Park down could be drawn into the relegation dogfight in only a couple of weekends. http://spfl.co.uk/league-two/table/ Wick Academy now top HL, 1pt ahead of Turriff United (1 game in hand) and 2pts ahead of the widely-tipped Brora Rangers (2 games in hand) who have begun falling-behind on games played as a result of cup commitments. Brora, the only unbeaten side, is joined on 32pts by Formartine Utd who've played 1 game more. http://www.highlandfootballleague.com/LeagueTable/ Edinburgh City... unbeaten and having obtained the vital club licence last month... have continued their considerable lead in LL which now stands at 8pts ahead of Spartans. Then its another 3pts to Whitehill Welfare and University of Stirling, the latter having played 1 game more. http://slfl.co.uk/tables/league/ Brora and Elgin go head-to-head tomorrow in the North of Scotland Cup Final, but with Elgin required to play an SPFL2 game at Berwick today it's unlikely their strongest team will take the park. However, more intriguingly, in a fortnight Edinburgh City host Brora in the Scottish Cup R3.
HibeeJibee
Brora 3-1 Elgin in today's NofSC Final at Clachnacuddin. Elgin to their credit started a strong XI, but given 7 of them travelled the length of the country and started against Berwick only 24hrs before - a further 2 having come on as substitutes at Shielfield - it was perhaps no surprise they could not stand Brora. Jacksgranda
It's all Berwick's fault. Isn't it always?
BullyWeeLad
I think Elgin are wanting back into the Highland League anyways, Hopefully a decent club comes up.
Dee Till A Die
Everybody still happy with the pyramid system or is anybody wavering a bit on it yet? Think it's a great idea. The bottom tier has been crying out for some competition and this does exactly this. Will be interesting to see over the years how many HL/LL teams do win the playoff match and come up. HibeeJibee
Bumpety bump. Elgin City have fallen 4pts behind the pack at the foot of SPFL2, which has just passed the 1/3 stage, although from there it's only 2pts more to 4th. http://spfl.co.uk/league-two/table/ Up in the Highlands we find Brora Rangers now 1pt clear at the top with 2 games-in-hand having passed the halfway point this afternoon. http://www.highlandfootballleague.com/LeagueTable/ Finally in the Lowland League the Edinburgh City lead has stretched to 7pts with 1 game-in-hand, and they reached halfway this afternoon. http://slfl.co.uk/tables/league/
Poet of the Macabre
What's the chat about the pyramid below LL/HL? Needs to go all the way down to parks football for me.
HibeeJibee
What's the chat about the pyramid below LL/HL? Needs to go all the way down to parks football for me. This season the East of Scotland & South of Scotland leagues have joined the pyramid, with a playoff between their champions (if eligible) to replace bottom in LL. Effectively, all of Senior football is now incorporated into the pyramid. Clubs can apply to the EOSL & SOSL annually (and the LL as long as it's got vacancies)... But ultimately we're only going to see a 'comprehensive' pyramid if the Juniors join, logically absorbing the EOSL & SOSL in the process. Junior football contains the bulk of the clubs placed between amateur football on public parks - and professional football within the licensing system. There would (IMO) be no need to alter their existing 3-region, 6-district structure beyond that merger which might create 2 more districts. There are various threads on the LL and Junior sub-forums discussing this sticky issue (often at great length!!). Ultimately, to date, the Juniors have stood apart... hopefully this changes sometime in the future. Pyramid shouldn't just be about clubs accessing SPFL. Probably best not to say too much more, as this question very often devours any thread in which it's mentioned. (With myself among the guilty parties). jimmyjjohn
Should just be called Queen's Park Watch IMO.Gus' cloggers to hoof their way into the Lowland League and Brora to come up.

BerwickMad
Would like to see Edinburgh City come up followed by a Borders team at some point in the near future. Would give us the kick up the arse needed if we had another localish club to compete with.

SouthLanarkshireWhite
Edinburgh City and Brora appear to be running away with it. Tough for whoever has to play them being on a poor run all year against teams used to winning.

HibeeJibee
Christmas update time. Brora Rangers drew yesterday. With 20 of their 34 games played they are 2pts ahead of Turriff United, with 1 game-in-hand. 'Turra' will be cursing their early 3pts deduction for fielding an ineligible player. Wick are a further 2pts back - but have played 2 games more still. http://www.highlandfootballleague.com/LeagueTable/ Edinburgh City are currently on LL Cup duty. With 14 of their 26 league games played they are 5pts ahead of Gretna with 3 games-in-hand, and 10pts clear of Spartans with 1 game-in-hand. http://slfl.co.uk/tables/league/ Elgin remain afoot SPFL2 but with games-in-hand and only a few points on many above them. http://spfl.co.uk/league-two/table/

So we know that Clyde are better than Turriff but not as good as Spartans, ergo not as good as Gretna and thereby Edinbugh City so that must mean that City will tank Brora/Turriff and be in SFL 2 next year and Clyde, or Cumbernauld Angst as they will be known by then, will play in Lowland. Unless of course Rangers go bust again and get relegated to the Lowland and then buy Angst, after another share option raises five grand, to automatically play in the SFL2. Just might happen! bullyweehutch
If Rangers go bust AGAIN they can get to f**k. Me and my dad were looking at some footy mags from the 40/50's and even then the old firm were involved in dodgy dealings and living out with their means.
