clash city rocker Posted July 17, 2014 Share Posted July 17, 2014 What happened with Aberdeen Lads Club ? ....was up there about 10 year ago in Scottish with Ladeside.Somebody said it was an issue with their pitch being too far from the dressing rooms.Is that true ?.Never bothered Kilbirnie whatsoever. Aberdeen Lads Club FC were denied promotion to the North Superleague at the end of season 2007-2008 as their ground failed to meet the NRJFA Superleague ground criteria. The main issue was that the changing rooms were a considerable distance from the pitch and they had to string out ropes to make a safe pathway for players and officials. Despite making efforts to meet the criteria, including the provision of a fence around their pitch, after failing to gain promotion, the club lost a lot of their players and the committee lost heart and withdrew from the Association during the summer of 2008. The Superleague criteria have been a bone of contention since they were introduced for the laudable reason of trying to raise standards amongst member clubs. However, on the down side several clubs, notably Inverness City, have fallen foul of these regulations, and been denied promotion, although Inverness did eventually make it into the Superleague this season. clash city rocker Posted July 17, 2014 Share Posted July 17, 2014 That's a shame,hate to see any club chuck it.Not as if you had to walk through Aberdeen city centre to get to the pitch ffs....they had a walkway marked out for the teams when we were there and nobody had a problem. Did Formatine not have a problem when they finished in a relegation place but thought they were safe cause the team that replaced them were supposed to not be able to go up cause of ground issues but did?. Can understand the region wanting better grounds,facilities etc but not every club can be Linlithgow. Yes that was one of the main factors behind Formartine's move into the Highland league. The issue of the ground criteria is an interesting one. It was the clubs themselves that voted for more stringent criteria for Superleague teams. Some clubs were more than hacked off that other clubs were spending a lot on players (signing on fees etc, in North terms anyway) whilst others were pumping money into better facilities for players, officials and spectators but were being left behind in terms of results promotions etc. It was an attempt to ensure that clubs took a longer term view and tried to attain a more professional attitude to the Junior game overall. It did lead to some decisions that viewed from a distance looked a bit odd but it was all done with the best intentions. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

footiefanboy Posted July 26, 2014 Author Share Posted July 26, 2014 All three new clubs in the North Region in action today, against opposition of differing standards and with a variety of results: Aberdeen University 4-1 Cruden Bay - good result against newly promoted Superleague Bay Grantown 4-2 Buckie Rovers - another good result, albeit against a mid-table West Division side Spey Valley 2-6 Formartine United - not surprising with Formartine being one of the stronger HFL clubs. This season could be more of a transitional one for Culter they have lost several key players from last seasons squad, they still have more than enough quality to compete but the league could be a lot closer this season. Banks O' Dee had a very strong finish to last season, a mid season dip in form really hurt their title challenge.I'm not sure who they've brought in or lost in but it could be a tight league. Maud have made a couple of good signings they could surprise a few people. Consistency was their problem last year Wouldn't rule out Hermes either Dyce took a battering from Woodside amateurs the other night I'm not sure what's going on there Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
footiefanboy Posted July 31, 2014 Author Share Posted July 31, 2014 Banks o' Dee should really be the main challengers with the set-up and funding they have but they seem to still be distracted by the prospect of bigger things (in the pyramid). Dyce looked the part for about two-thirds of the season but faltered badly after losing their manager Tom McPherson. Hermes won the league at a canter two seasons ago but they are possibly punching above their weight. Maud are interesting, pulling off some great results, then slipping up when least expected. Stonehaven have been in the doldrums for a while but if they can get their act together they might mount a challenge. To make things interesting, it needs at least three, or better still four, clubs to still be in the hunt in April/May. Culter seem to be experts at shaking off challengers so when the business end of the season comes round, they are under no pressure and romp home. It would be great if it was different this season. Heskey Posted July 31, 2014 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Last season Culter won the League by 15 points but Dyce lost all of their last 5, with 5 games to go it could have still went down to the final game. But as you say they seem to be experts at getting the results when it really matters.Maud always try to play football which can't always be said for other teams, they maybe need to learn the art of grinding results out before they can be considered as genuine challengers. But they'll certainly take some scalps Cracking set up at Banks O' Dee i can see why they may have their distractions. They failed to get in on a vote last time but they would have ambitions to get in through the Pyramid route. If they were runners up, for example to Culter, and the winners of the highland league were to step up, BoDee would surely have a good case to replace them, assuming Culter were not interested. They also play in midweek in the Aberdeenshire league...mostly with younger players but you would think that would be a distraction for manager, coaches etc for the junior league.
