Away capacities

Recommended Posts

Have to think Livi would easily have 5,000 away tickets. I think their ground holds 10,000 and i can't see it getting filled. Should be plenty to go round there and Ibrox but other grounds i suspect there will be a shortage of tickets for away fans, including Falkirk and Raith.

No there won't be at Falkirk. We will give half the main stand too. Up to 4,000 available at TFS

Got any sources for this so I can have a read? That will be good if Queens can do that, I didn't even know it could be used currently either. Pretty sure the last time I saw it it was full of advertising boards and weeds.

A full house at Palmerston Park next season could see it play host to up to 10,000 paying punters.

These are the hopes of Queen of the South as they move to make a number of updates around the ground ahead of the next Championship season which will include two visits from Rangers, Hearts and possibly Hibernian.

The other big change will be yet another new pitch...just a year after the first artificial surface was laid at the ground.

Chairman Billy Hewitson told Standard Sport: “We’re looking at the moment to increase the capacity of the Terregles Street end. We’ve got permission to use it from last season and now we just need to increase the capacity a bit for this year as it could be a big season and we may need the space.

“We got 1,000 behind the Terregles Street end last year but we could do with getting the total stadium capacity up to 10,000 – which is achievable.

“What we are looking at is away fans. They’d take up half the East Stand and the whole of the Terregles Street end. So that is the area we are concentrating on to make sure we can get a good level of away support in and maintain the home support in the East Stand – especially for season ticket holders.”

The current artificial surface is due to be lifted as early as next Monday with the chairman insisting it’s for no other reason than it simply “doesn’t look right”.

Act Global, which supplied the pitch, offered to update it free of charge.

Hewitson added: “When you are sitting up in the stand looking across it – it looks patchy. It certainly doesn’t affect the playing surface and how the pitch plays or the performance.

“It just aesthetically doesn’t look right. The company is keen to make an impact so they’re happy to move us to the next level. It’s their latest version of the woven carpet and at the end of the day – when you get offered it – you don’t turn it down.

“There is a couple of things that need to be moved around and a couple of people are disappointed as they had the pitch booked during the close season but these things happen. It’s too good an opportunity to turn down.”

The club released a joint statement with Act Global on Monday. The firm’s managing director, Chris Clapham, said: “We wanted to recognise the success that Queens have had on the pitch and acknowledge the value from our association with Queen of the South.”

A Palmerston spokesman added: “The new surface contains the very latest artificial grass supplied by Bonar Yarns, the second largest yarn supplier in the world who are based in Dundee. It’s a proven system that will deliver a surface fit for the very top flight of Scottish football.

“We have been delighted with the pitch this season. The move to the new surface, which might not please traditionalists, has definitely been the way forward. In fact, with the inclement conditions in the winter months, we estimate that we might have lost four games to the weather. You only have to look at some of the grass surfaces we have played on this season to appreciate the good football that can be played out on a 4G surface.”

The club has also apologised that the pitch cannot be used for rentals this summer.

That looks decent that does. A bit of work done, maybe even make it an all seater stand much like County have with Victoria Park, and it would look great. Hopefully the opposite end remains as a terrace because it looks very smart - especially when it's got lots of fans in it.

I'd rather that Terregles Street remained as terracing to be honest. It needs to be tidied a bit and I hope they install some kind of barrier at the back to replace the temporary fencing that's up. I'd also like to again see the terracing becoming accessible from the street itself.

As I said before, I think it would be quite appealing to lots of away fans, to be able to offer the chance of standing.

This!

I'd much rather stand behind the goals, Ross County was great for that but that's gone now too :(

Yes.

Bit jealous that the away support will get to sit up the side if I'm honest!

We'll be able to use it for smaller away supports as well to save us from opening the McDermid stand.

That's great news. I'd love to sit there again as it gives a great view of the pitch. Would make for a much better atmosphere as well as the two sets of fans would be much closer together.
