Will Rangers ever get promoted?

Recommended Posts

Is there any chance that if the ticket money was being retained by the home club, there might not be such a clamour about it being unfair to charge the fans?

The reality is that there had been no clamour about charging fans.

Remember that away from the top divisions, play-offs have been running for many years now. Fans have been getting charged for many years now and it's not been seen as unfair.

The involvement now of bigger clubs has changed things and as I've said, I don't think it's a bad thing for fans to receive a break in this way.

Charging for these games is not intrinsically unfair though. The suggestion that it is, is opportunistic and misses the point.

You are missing the point. It should be about letting the clubs decide.

akredz didn't miss the point. You're suggesting that Rangers should be allowed to decide whether they collect money from their fans, three-quarters of which will not go to Rangers. Why, then, should they be allowed to make the decision on something that only affects them in such a small way?

Sevco only whitewashed The Rovers and Dumbarton all season.

Came off worst head to head against Hibs and Queens. Now they've got to get past both of them and probably Motherwell.

Can they make it without any honest mistakes?

Some other interesting comments regarding parachute payments, robbing Paul to pay peter as they say.

"Hibs had argued that a cut was viable because the Scottish Football Association was funding parachute payments to clubs relegated via the Scottish Premiership play-offs for the first two years. Hibs got £500,000 and will get a further £250,000 if they fail to go straight back up.

But Thompson said: "We could still have to pay it back in future. That has been debated for two years and as it stands the SFA position is they still want the £1.5million back. The chairman of Hibs (Rod Petrie) sits on the SFA board and he might know something we don't but we have to act on the situation as it stands before us.

"One or two of the clubs have pointed out what happens further down the line when we have to pay £750,000 in parachute payments? What happens when smaller clubs are involved in the play-offs? Should we not take some upside because there's going to be a downside further down the line?"

The SPFL earlier argued that "respect for democracy and sticking to the rules agreed by all of its clubs is essential if the game in Scotland is to thrive" after writing to all clubs who may be involved in the top-flight play-offs reminding them that the levy must be paid in full"

They've come off worst against Hearts now too - two defeats, a win and a draw.
