f**k you Marko Ayr are staying up

Billy Stark would be a great appointment IMO.With his experience both at 1st Team Level as a great player ( could ghost into penalty boxes and finish from midfield with aplomb ) and manager ( no 2 to Tommy Burns at Killie during the best years Killie have ever had ) coupled with recent Youth experience in the Scotland set up he is an ideal appointment for Ayr IMO.

Why is his (30 year old) playing career of any relevance to his managerial ability?

Having to take a bunch of talentless League One players, make them hard to beat and climb the league is pretty much the polar opposite of what he's been doing the last few years. His record before that was pretty mixed.

On the plus side at the very least he would command some kind of respect off the players, and he is actually a manager, not just some player in his late 30s as is the fashion these days.

If he has managed previously at three clubs ( irrespective of success ) that would make him one of the most experienced managers we have employed in the last 36 years.

1978 Ally MacLeod,

1979 - 1983 Willie McLean, (3)

1983 - 1985 George Caldwell, (0)

1985 - 1990 Ally MacLeod, ( Plenty )

1991 - 1993 George Burley, (0)

1993 - 1995 Simon Stainrod, (1)

1995 - 2002 Gordon Dalziel, (0)

2002 - 2004 Campbell Money, (1)

2004 - 2005 Mark Shanks, (0)

2005 - 2007 Robert Connor, (0)

2007 Neil Watt, (1)

2007 - 2012 Brian Reid, (0)

2012 - 2014 Mark Roberts, (0)

Stark would be a poor appointment especially if Ayr are looking towards youths.

He a did a fine job of ruining anything positive coming through Scotland under 21's. Got lucky that there was a couple of players carried his team further than they probably deserved to go.

He's got a great record with the first team though.

Was Dean Keenan not looking to get into management?

That is a sobering list.

Not entirely sure what relevance national management has to do with Ayr United and SFL1, the U21's have been garbage for most of my life..

McLeod and Burley went on to international management after Ayr but 5 have never managed at senior level since.......3 of them in the Cameron(s) era and all currently not in a management job

Cameron must be due picking a winner soon

1st week in January apparently. Have to remember it's Christmas so I'd expect us to have the shortlist sorted by Christmas Eve and interviews to be done between Christmas and New Year.
