Is there not a limit on the number of loan players you can have in a matchday squad (for some reason I thought six?)

Be quite the thing if we forfeited the points with a 0-3 defeat due to an administrative error...

On the face of it, that seems like a sensible move for all parties. Stewart gets to make a fresh start in a league that he has performed well in previously. We get to move on a big earner and an underperforming captain who the majority of fans had now decided wasn't going to cut it with us.

Whilst we probably do need to take the opportunity to solve the huge wage and 'nae a captain' conundrum, we're now relying on two complete unknown quantities to come in and play in central defence.

Given the wage being freed up with Stewart, would be good to unveil one more experienced defender before midnight, but presumably little chance of that happening.

I suppose Stewart and Scales have been so porous and error-ridden recently that two unknown quantities almost feels like a gamble worth taking. We could definitely benefit from one more, though.

With Stewart, I did occasionally see evidence that he was decent at the defensive fundamentals. He looked at his most capable and comfortable when he was basically parked on or behind his own eighteen-yard line, like in the game against Celtic in December. But anything remotely outside that comfort zone and he was a fish out of water. He would probably look decent in a team that spent the majority of their time sat in a low-block, but he just wasn't the right fit for us.

Disappointing as he had something about him but he never really found any form this season.

Really liked Vinnie, but he has obviously been unhappy since he was the one left out to allow Miovski and Duk to play together.
