Apparently Stuart Findlay is signing for Oxford.

There was a mad Killie fan on here who used to proclaim he was miles better than McKenna nd would take his spot in the Scotland team.

Don't think things could have panned out more differently.

Don't forget though that it's cool to slag Scott McKenna off, despite being Scotland's best centre back.

What was wrong with the substitutions he made against Raith ?

It was the sign of panic rather tactical nous.

He brought on Ferguson, Brown, Hedges and Ramsay after the 70 minute mark.

And also highlighted to everyone that he had made too many changes and thought he could throw them all the big guns in the last twenty minutes to save his ass.

It failed because we were pumped out the cup by Raith Rovers.

Perhaps win the match first and then take the big guns off no?

Have you got a different take like?

Was the 2-1 defeat at Raith actually evidence of master managerial technician that my bitterness can't see?

Your explanation there puts quite a different slant on it , compared to your original statement which was simply that he made a complete pig's ear of the substitutions.

Which , to me, implies that you think that either he took off the wrong players or that he should've put on different subs. However , I doubt if there were many fans with these complaints at the time.

And not many complaints about the team selection at half-time when , even though we hadn't played well we had pretty much controlled the game and were 1-nil up. And , in any event , even if there hadn't been so many changes , the nucleus of our seemingly strongest XI went on to demonstrate many times throughout the season that they were perfectly capable of losing matches.

I'm not sure it's fair to call the substitutions a sign of panic , given that it was only roughly midway through the second half and it was 1-1 at the time.

And substitutions don't have to be tactical. On that occasion it was more a case of taking off players who were having a poor game and replacing them with ones who would hopefully, perform similar roles , but better.

And the fact that Raith scored about a minute after the substitutions wasn't really down to the changes but rather due simply to Gurr's failure to complete what should've been a straightforward clearance.

We lost that tie because we fell right out of the game in the second-half ....not because of the substitutions.

During the war, the French put their weakest, less battle ready troops to defend the border area that stretches along the Ardennes because they didn't think the Germans could penetrate the difficult terrain.

However, the Germans got through so they decided to move their strongest troops into the region to halt the Germans progression but it was too late and the Nazis marched onwards Paris.

By moving in their strongest troops to protect the weakest ones, they had made a tactical move but it failed because the damage had already been done.

Does that give you an idea of what tactics are?

The team had been doing quite well at the start of the season until Glass made wholesale changes in Kirkcaldy by lining up with the weaker troops. Gurr was one of the less battle ready ones.

We lost the game because John McGlynn had learned from the first half where Raith should attack.

The game was already sliding away from us, even at 1-1, when Glass panicked. He tried to shore things up with his strongest troops when the opposition already had their tails up and the momentum was swinging towards the home team.

Gurr's mistake wasn't just a momentary lapse in concentration. He had been put under serious pressure, as had all the defence, during the second half and he was flustered. Their second goal had been on the cards.

Please stop mentioning Jack Gurr

You're not going to take a lukewarm pie with you and people will continue to pay. Unfortunately.
