Its just the way it is. I wouldn't be expecting there to be any improvement on the last seven years now you'll be changing manager, as it isn't possible.

Aberdeen can't do any better than what McInnes has done, the only way is down now.

We've scored 1 goal in 9 games with no improvement in sight. How bad does it have to be before you think a change needs to be made?

Crazy decision imo.
He has been at Aberdeen for seven years. He is on course to qualify for Europe for the 7th time in a row. Previous to that they managed four in nineteen.
He also won their first trophy for quarter of a century.
They may be able to get a 'progressive' coach (has to be Robinson btw) who will make them slightly better to watch, and they may even get a short-term bump.
But there's no chance anyone will be able to improve on his results there. Its not possible. He has been bouncing off the glass ceiling for years.
It speaks to the sense of entitlement at that club that they can sack a manager currently sitting fourth in the table. For Aberdeen third is first, and he has earned the credit to survive a few bad runs of form.
Madness, and will not make anything any better, except possibly the style of football.
I'm sorry but this is nonsense.

He has done very well for us for a long time. But since the New Year we have:

Won 2 games out of 13
Scored 5 goals in 13 games
Scored 1 goal in our last 9 games

I'm afraid that is relegation form over a third of a League season. There was no sign of DM turning it around or arresting the slide form wise. That we are still 4th speaks volumes about the quality of the teams below us.

I wish DM no harm at all. Some outstanding work - the League Cup was brilliant and the 2016/17 season is the best Aberdeen team I've had the pleasure of watching play football. He made going to Pittodrie a joy for 5-6 years.

Desperately sad with the way it has ended but with the form stated above, it had to end as there was no signs of improvement.

Thanks for the memories Derek.

Over to Dave Cormack now, I worry about his judgement on this but I hope I'm proven wrong.

So why do we bother playing football then?

The results are shite. The football is shite. Why can't we improve on that?

Because that's the world mate. Its just the way it is.

At every level of the game the world over the team that spends most (transfers and wages combined) finishes first.

The team that spends the second most, finishes, can you guess............second!

The team that spend the third most.....are you getting the idea yet?

And in Aberdeen's case the difference is much more stark than in almost every league on earth.

They are competing with two teams that have between six and eight times their budget. Not even 60% or 80% more, 600% or 800%.

Celtic sign strikers from PSG, Aberdeen from Carlisle and Oxford.

There isn't a human being on earth who could take Aberdeen higher than 3rd. It simply isn't possible.

We haven't finished third for years!

Big deal, you're fourth and absolutely guaranteed to qualify for Europe for the seventh straight year. Before McInnes you managed four in nineteen years.

Teams go through sticky patches, a manager who has done an absolutely outstanding job over a long period of time has earned the credit to survive them.

Except in the minds of fans of a club who are basically spoiled brats cause they had an amazing manager forty years ago, and they still don't understand things aren't like that anymore.

Anyway enjoy battling for a top six place, and be careful what you wish for in future.

That's cause you finished second four years in a row, before two fourths (which are actually 2nd, as for Aberdeen 3rd is 1st).

Anyway enjoy mediocrity, this is what you wanted. Maybe you just didn't like success, or weren't able to recognise it.

It's been coming for a long time, took Aberdeen as far as he could. Pity he couldn't capitalise on Celtic's Deila time, we all would have liked to see that.

If only there was a job he could do 45 mins down the A90....

Oh here we go it's not the 80s anymore. How can you do better? Get the bingo cards out.

You're right he did earn some credit. The last season and a half of eye bleeding football and under achieving was it.

Telling us to enjoy mediocrity but 1 goal in 9 is acceptable.

Marginally under-achieving by finishing one place below the best possible league finish the club is capable of, after four consecutive second place finishes.

So in effect he won the title four times in a row, then finished second twice and Aberdeen fans were wanting him sacked. That's how deluded they are.

Its nine games mate, not fifty, and the fact they're still in fourth after a run like that shows what a good job he was doing.

Edited to add

He also lost his best central defender (also his captain) and best centre forward. And still was fourth after a bad run.  Astonishing decision, but this is what pressure from fans without a clue can do.

Half Cut guy is right in one way....the task of the next manager will be the most difficult at Pittodrie since Porterfield replaced Fergie.

The new manager has very little wriggle room. He needs.....at the very least....to maintain the consistency that McInnes put in place. He'll need as a bare minimum to get top 4 finishes and cup finals. On top of that bare minimum, he'll need to improve the standard of football.

But that's only the minimum. Consistency may not be good enough. It'll be DEMANDED of him to win trophies, and put pressure on the OF.

All of that, on a budget which is decreasing.

That is fucking tough. Honestly.

Sorry that we missed out the glory of all those 'in effect' trophies we apparently won?
