The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

Anyways, reflections following Sunday, but looking to the summer:

- Do we have an issue with recruitment? Specifically, are we doing enough research into the players we're signing? The ability of most of our first XI signings this season I'd say is unquestionable but attitude/injury proneness has been a real issue in getting consistency of selection and performance. Have we gambled on players that ability wise are 'above' Aberdeen but are available for various reasons, hoping they'll come good at Pittodrie? Examples being Wilson, Stewart, Gleeson, Hoban (injuries) etc

- Does the manager have the drive and passion to do the summer rebuild? I have no qualms with saying I'm still a big Mcinnes fan but if he is growing tired of the job or feels it's run its course in anyway he should go before it turns nasty. A lot of the support have unfairly made up their mind on him and it won't take too much next season for them to vote with their feet.

That pic of Christie being plastered all over social media is exactly the same as when AFC fans posted the photo of GMS’ broken face all Twitter etc.…what’s that, they didn’t? Because GMS didn’t post his picture like a self-pitying fanny?

Makes you wonder if maybe AFC players being called thugs is because all the greeners are sissies…

He posted to show that he was ok and even called himself a fullkitwanker and joking that he didnt even know about the score to make light of what must have been a  quite a traumatic occasion for him and his family.

He's collected benchwarmers this season.

Recalling his interview after the Motherwell SF fiasco last season on signing policy and what needed done, it would be interesting to play it back to him and let him summarise how he feels he's got on.

Gleeson has plenty experience at a good level, and caps for Ireland, yet is overlooked in a Hampden semi in favour of, just turned 18, Dean Campbell - in a midfield that already contained two other teenagers.

Our specialist RB cover Halford doesn't come on after the red card to the RB, and instead we play a centre half out of position there - with dire consequences.

Stewart generally has been deployed in the same largely ineffective position as last season, when we had a few months early season evidence that he could play a bit if used properly.

Wilson - where do you start?

Forrester - 200K !!!!!

He's been fortunate we got Lewis Ferguson and Max Lowe on loan for some positives to talk of.

It would be a good question for the DNA open forum Q&A to put to the manager - but they seem to have shortended that from the original Black & Gold event and everything is filtered stasi style via Dave McDermid.

It's funny that we've apparently kicked them off the park when Cosgrove was repeatedly floored off the ball.

That's sort of my point - Gleeson should have been good based on his pedigree, but we've barely seen him and he's hardly lit things up when he has played. Wilson is very talented, he shows flashes of it, but he shows more of why he's been booted out of most clubs he's been through. Stewart, there is some merit to the positional argument but that only goes so far.  His attitude has appeared dreadful in a lot of games.

I think Halford was only ever brought in as a last resort if we suffered even more injuries.

5 huge games looming, maybe six if AFC finish 4th (imagine having to hope for a Celtic win in the final…gads and sorry Hearts).

This will be further grist to the “nae bottle” mill if they louse up the run-in, regardless of the make-up of the games. If they finish outside the top 4 pitchforks and flaming torches will be getting looked out...

Stop trying to shut down an open forum this is the best thing about P&B.
The sheep where all over the Glasgow derby thread.

 (And that was after an edit!)

The last 4 transfer windows signing have been a bit of a disaster, I feel he can't get the summer one wrong or the fans will turn against him.  I do think trying to replace Jack, Hayes, McLean, GMS is always going to be near impossible but I do expect better than we have had.

The football this season has been dreadful to watch but it is amazing that we are only 4 points off last season at the same stage especially with the amount of injuries we have had.   Don't think we will get 9 points like we did last season after the split but still think we have enough to at least finish 4th and hopefully into Europe.

I hope Derek McInnes continues as manager as I don't see any suitable replacement at the moment (well only Steve Clarke but I can't see him coming to Aberdeen).

How can McInnes not get more out of Stewart? He was excellent for Killie and Dundee.

I have been to 5 games in last couple of months and Greg doesn’t look up for it or fit.

With GMS out there’s almost zero pace in attack which makes it easy to defend against.

Was actually 11 last season - top of the mini league.

Hearts H 2-0 win

Kilmarnock A 2-0 win

Sevco H 1-1

Hibs H 0-0

Celtic A 1-0 win

Sometimes players can look good at clubs with less pressure and 4,500 fans - but struggle with the expectation at a bigger stage.

As an ICT example - Hayes took a season to settle when he came to us, but eventually came good - yet Tansey was out of his depth , and going back a few years the likes of Wyness and Tudor-Jones failed miserably at the Edinburgh clubs.

Stewart is maybe better with less pressure and maybe more space as clubs don't camp in as much, but AFC for one reason or another keep choosing to deploy him wide where his one-footedness and lack of pace is easier to deal with.

Birmingham fans labelled him one of the worst players they'd ever seen, so he clearly didn't make an impression there.

Stewart was never fast but now he looks even slower than he did not that long ago. Something not right, what a waste of a very talented player.

He's also now in a team with GMS, McGinn, McLennan etc. There's only so much creative licence to be shared in a Derek McInnes team.

Stewart’s been given plenty of games in the middle as well and proven to be just as ineffective there for us as he is out wide.

I didn’t think there was any way he could be worse than his first spell with us but he found a way.
