The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

The Aberdeen statement is massive. Surely the SFA/SPFL or whoever must respond to it in one way or another, and maybe, just maybe, other clubs will now put their heads above the parapet and get this revolution moving. Craig Gordon’s comments are totally irrelevant, as he’s just annoyed that a Rangers player wasn’t disciplined, and his club are one of two benefiting from this incompetence that just gets worse as the season progresses, and we’re only in September. I’m sure that he wasn’t bothered when Scott Brown wasn’t cited for his elbow in the Hearts game.

In the same way Clarke wasnt fussed when the officials gave an incorrect pen for killie v Hibs last season, I seem to recall him saying "these things happen" or some other trite nonsense.

The clubs are not "in it together" they are only interested in their own back yard - Aberdeen would have said jack shit if Devlin hadnt been involved in something vaguely contentious.

And Hibs would be exactly the same - if we get something going our way on Saturday, I fully expect Lennon to say "these things even themselves out" or some other bullshit.

It's just another in the long list of reasons why I, and many other are becoming utterly jaded with football in this country.

I hope that long list of reasons get resolved and that you (and many others) become less utterly jaded.

As a minimum, we have to keep at the SFA/SPFL until they come out and explain the rationale behind Morelos, Brown/Naismith, McGregor (twice), Dicker, Devlin, Clarke/Kilmarnock, Gerrard and Jack. Astonishingly every one of these decisions was judged in the wrong way, in the vast majority of fans minds, and the fans need answers, for once.

there was a story in the gutter press about the refs association seeking clarification from fifa.

if this is true then it looks like they're also baffled by the process that let off morelos and naismith.

Also, it won't hurt if FIFA can explain the rules to them so that the Devlin and Dicker debacles don't happen in the first place.

There is nothing disreputable in our club statement but i expect a charge for derrick any day now.

If you try to kick someone it's a red, you don't need to make contact let alone with enough force.

In fairness Morelos just looked like he lost his balance/had been knocked off his feet when you watch it at full speed. It's only when you slow it down and get reverse angles that it's a clear kick out. Their argument was that Morelos was just trying to regain his footing, if the panel only review at full speed I can see that being accepted, but they didn't rescind it they downgraded to a yellow which makes no sense.

Greg Stewart in the SPFL team of the week, again.

Good on him, he's a decent player.

He just wasn't a good fit for the Dons....looked overweight and unfit when he signed, and didn't have any real influence on enough games.

Glad he seems to have sorted himself out.

I'm very rattled by how good he's been. Deliberately let us down last year. Hates the Dons, loves Killie. Hates me.

Seems to be a common theme with McInnes failing to get the best out of players that other managers in this league have had success with.

Every time I've seen you lot he's got Mays role in the team completely wrong compared to what it was with us, and you end up seeing all Mays weaknesses and none of his strengths. Seemed the same with Stewart and Tansey too, as obvious examples.

I'm loathe to say it but his signings seem to be signed without him actually figuring out how to use them. May was fucking deadly for us in a two, and allowed to roam onto the wings at will, he was fucking woeful for a spell when MacLean was injured and he was the main focal point as a lone striker, yet McInnes seems to love chucking him up as a lone striker.

Stewart will likely continue to be good for Kilmarnock in a more central role, especially if he has Brophy to essentially do his running for him. I thought May looked better when Stewart was played centrally for us. Unfortunately, he was too often played out wide, which just didn't seem to suit his attributes. Having said that, he arrived unfit, was inconsistent, and his end product was often frustrating, so he didn't always help himself.

The end of his time as Motherwell manager in February 2017 remains a source of pain and frustration as he recalls the "horrendous" and "horrific" night he was humiliated in front of his son at Pittodrie.

Escorted to the stand by police in a 7-2 defeat, McGhee was then filmed by a Dons fan as he was goaded by the home support around him, with the video of him taking exception going viral.

...

The following month McGhee was given a six-match touchline banby the Scottish FA after being charged over his conduct towards a match official during that 7-2 defeat at Pittodrie, his third last game in charge. It came three months after he was cited for an altercation with an "overzealous" Dens Park "bouncer" in a 2-0 loss at Dundee.

"I have to say it still feels like the biggest injustice that's ever been done to me in my life. It still makes me sick to think that's what happened to me," explains McGhee. "I can't put into words how strongly I feel about it.

"It was partly the thing at Pittodrie and the incident at Dundee where I consider I was manhandled by a bouncer.

"That [six-match ban] hangs over me and it's practically impossible for me to consider coming to Scotland because of that."

I know that he was possibly our worst ever manager, and not the best human being on the planet, but I struggle when Mark McGhee is ridiculed. He was an amazing player for us, and was hugely instrumental in the success upon success that we had in the eighties.

I understand the sentiment around not abusing McGhee too much, I really do but....

There is no doubt he’s an absolute fucking weapon and deserves every bit of ridicule he gets. And make no mistake, he does not give one f**k about Aberdeen FC, so I do not give one f**k about him either.

I posted the full interview over in the Motherwell thread.  It's just spectacular.  I mean, you all know about the 7-2 hammering at Pittodrie, but it was quickly followed by a 5-1 defeat at home to Dundee where all the goals were in the first 45 minutes.  Not once since he left has he admitted he made any mistakes or shown a bit of humility.

As someone who backed McGhee pretty much until the end, he will always come across as a a self-absorbed arsehole.

The Mark McGhee Consultancy Service will be some fucking barrel of laughs though.
