Euro Election May 22nd.

Recommended Posts

What drew you to them? I had a look through the candidates, to see if there was any slight thing that made me think I should vote for them. Started reading the Greens manifesto, but very quickly got bored with that. How did you pick? Just want to pump Catherine Stihler? Looks okay in her younger photos. The SNP third choice is a looker too. The other parties are missing a trick here, especially UKIP. All you need is a sexy lady in there to win the pervert vote.

Cheated and did the 'EU vote match' thing. Labour, Lib Dems and SNP were my top three respectively with about 2% between each party.

I'm not overly Liberal, and whilst I begrudgingly accept that the EU is necessary I'm not a cheerleader for t and voting for the party that have positioned themselves as essentially the 'EU party' means I rejected the Lib Dems.

As for the SNP, any vote for them would to me feel like an endorsement of independence. They may be unrelated but in the current political climate SNP and Yes are essentially the same thing. Don't want to endorse independence, and as a socialist I'm opposed to nationalism anyway, so voting for a nationalist party means I decided to reject the SNP too.

Of the three parties I'm matched up with Labour are the only party who didn't give me a reason not to vote for them. So Labour it is.

I'm voting, what's the point in complaining that the EU is undemocratic/unrepresentative if you don't participate.

That's a fair point and why I try not to moan about politicians and parties too much. I just settle on detesting the whole lot of the greedy corrupt b*****ds.

If you were to go into a restaurant on a Sunday and they had a menu giving you the choice of,

Roast Chicken and all the trimmings,

Roast Pork and all the trimmings,

Roast Beef and all the trimmings,

Roast Lamb and all the trimmings,

all are at the same price but the meat is off and going to make you ill, what do you choose?

Basically I can't find any party/person to represent me and I don't want to be a politician so I am fucked.

Simon Stainrod's hat it is.

I'm not voting, don't want to be a part of the EU , would feel like a bit of a hypocrite

8 out of the 11 parties standing in my Constiuency (west midlands) dont want to be either so your not alone!

I'd never even heard of some of them either, along with the usual BNP & UKIP there was also English Democrats (slogan English Yes, British No, European No), An independence from Europe Party, No2EU - Yes to Democracy, We Demand a Referendum Now Party, Harmony Party ("zero immigration, anti-EU, pro-jobs").

That's the problem with the far left/right - more splits than a Girl Guide camp

Still undecided over the SNP/Greens issue. Heart says Greens because I feel they accurately reflect my views but head head says SNP as it would be pretty fucking annoying seeing the papers spin it into a rejection of independence if their vote share decreases much. Ultimately though, I realise my single vote won't matter.

Also had to be said, fair-play to the EU marketing people for some of the innovative stuff that they've come up with like the Google Doodle and pop-up messages on Facebook. Shows they are at least trying.

Greens are pro independence as well, any paper that spins an SNP decrease and a Green increase as a rejection for independence is, well, probably the Daily Mail.

I vote Greens where ever possible, but this time with UKIP it doesn't feel safe to vote for the samller parties. Ultimately the more votes the SNP and Labour and even the tories get, the less chance of UKIP taking that last scottish seat.

UKIP seem to be playing on others minds, I heard a PPB (might have been Labour, unsure) that basically mentioned "so that's why don't vote UKIP" more than actually boosting their own parties credentials.

Pretty much this for me - although I've been more of a SNP/Green switcher in recent elections. Of the realistic possibilities in this election, my number one wish is that UKIP do not get a seat in Scotland. The SNP getting a third seat seems like the most likely way for this to happen. They'll be getting my vote.

Is that a possibility?

I haven't really been following the Euro election stuff much, and I won't be bothering to vote.

I did see a poll that suggested Labour might pip them nationally.

The polls say that the SNP will probably take the sixth seat (plus two others, two for Labour, and one for the Tories). UKIP winning it is probably the next most likely scenario (they're polling higher than the Lib Dems, Greens, and Labour getting another seat), but to do it they'll need at least a third of the votes that the SNP get overall. The bookies have UKIP getting a seat in Scotland at around 2/1.

Edit - it's come in to 11/8 now. And UKIP are 2/5 to get the most votes UK-wide. Yuck.

That's actually terrifying.

It really is alarming that such a vast, vast number of people can be absolute c***s. Horrifying.

I'll be voting SNP when I go along after work.

A lot of people want to leave the EU/vote on it but don't see this as a priority at general elections. I don't think UKIP polling highly is much to do with their other policies.

The polls between the GE and this tell their own story - Labour and the Conservatives are both losing voters to them here, but far less so outside of the European election. Those voters disconnected aren't however prepared to vote UKIP domestically, probably because they agree with the anti-EU message but not a lot of the rest of what they stand for.

It was said before on here, but it's proof the media don't have the influence they used to. The media have been attacking UKIP like mad lately.
