The South of Scotland Club will run the new facility which has been completed on the site of the old primary school.The Lockerbie-based side will become the latest side to play on the synthetic surface after new pitches were build at Palmerston, Marchmount, Annan, Newton Stewart and St Cuthbert Wanderers' ground at Kirkcudbright.Mids will now play their first South match at their new ground on Friday November 7. The facility is a major boost for the community in and around Lockerbie as well as the ambitious football club.Secretary George Trudt said: ““This is a real milestone for the club and we are all looking forward to getting on and playing on that surface. It looks certain that you can get get your fixtures played. It’s something we’ve waited a long time for in Lockerbie because we’ve had trouble with pitches for years and now we can look ahead with confidence.”He added: “There’s also a lot of community interest in the project as Mids have four or five teams including a girls team, youths and our senior team. The wider community is also enquiring about the hire of the facility so it is all looking good. We’ve had number of enquiries from people wanting block bookings and we will try and accommodate everyone and keep them all happy. It’s a great asset for the community.”Over the past few seasons Mids have had many fixture postponements because of the waterlogged pitch or because it was unplayable, and for the past two seasons they played their home games at Annan Athletic’s Galabank 3G pitch. Mids will be handed the lease of the complex by Dumfries and Galloway Council and will administer it for bookings and charges. And after the first year the club will also be responsible for maintenance as well.Mr Trudt said: “It’s a big step for the club but with all the uncertainties over the winter and even in the summer months we were having games called off. With the 3G pitch you’re almost always certain that you’ll be able to play and not be upsetting the league secretaries with cancellations.”Mids is also exploring the possibility of playing on Friday evenings as the ground is equipped with floodlights allowing the pitch to be played on until 10pm during the week and 8pm at the weekends. Mr Trudt said: “We feel we could get a better turnout to watch the games but that is all down to the cooperation of other clubs and the league but we think we could get a better attendance.
