The pitch at Saracen is ridiculously narrow. I thought club licencing was dependent on 100 x 60yds. I'd say Saracen was narrower as that would mean 8 yards on either side of the penalty area.

The SFA board ultimately have the discretion to do whatever they like, although it will be interesting to see what difference the amended resolution to the SFA AGM could/will make on that.

Possil?!? Curiouser and curiouser. I would have thought being in the west end is the only way to try to get some local interest and attendances. There are already three junior teams in and around possil so they are not going to poach many locals.

I look forward to crepe and a frappucino in the Ashfield.

Perhaps relevant there has been a campaign on the Broomhill website to return the old blaes pitches on Victoria park (used occasionally as car parking and a drive in cinema at present) back into a football facility. The locals would prefer an orchard. Maybe a longer term vision? There was a music festival in the park for a couple of years around 06/07 but a lot of opposition to it from residents at the time so I think a LL team playing there would be problematic.

If the documentation says:

Field Dimensions
The field must be a minimum of
90m in length and 56m in width.
Best practice is 105x68m.
Where is the discretion?

They've have put a couple of statements on their website this evening:

http://www.broomhillsportsclub.org.uk/latestnews/bsc-glasgow-glasgows-new-team-in-scottish-sun-lowland-football-league-29th-april-2014.html

Second of those says - "As you may have read Broomhill Sports Club have now been accepted at a senior level into the lowland league and will be playing their home games at Saracen Park". They will first use the arena on Sunday 25th May for a youth football tournament.

Super to see another good stadium added to the Lowland League, credit to BSC Glasgow.

Are we sure about this HJ? It seems to me that it might be super at Junior level (although even the juniors on here don't seem to rate it), but will it be good enough for the licensing board?

I cannot see the board using their "discretion" on this one. It could open up a whole can of worms.

Tigers are racing the Monarchs at 3.00 that day.

The only major issue is the speedway track turning the pitch into a postage stamp. Saracen Park wouldn't be viable for that sport if it didn't have a reasonable level of amenities. Find it mildly hysterical that after successfully warding off the "dinosaurs" with the unnecessarily hasty year early launch you have wound up with a team in Possil.

A way to deal with the scheduling conflicts would be to have the speedway going on side during the game. It would also be a novel way to deal with time wasting at throw ins...

Can something really be mildly hysterical? Perhaps just not hysterical at all? And in what sense have "we" wound up with anything...do you think we voted on Monday?

Tigers chasing Queen Liz would be well worth a fiver or so.

Not to mention King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Emporer Akihito of Japan in as a guest stars. It's literally a Royal Rumble.

Right then 1st question how do I get there fae queen street ?

Is ashfield on the right hand side of the main Edinburgh - Glasgow rail line heading from Edinburgh as you pass eastfield ?

Is it near the m8 ?

If thats the park I think it needs major modernization :o

On a more serious note, BSC look like a good advert for a community determined to improve local facilities regardless of the apathy or local councils and existing sporting dinosaurs. This is the way forward - lots of existing clubs are gong to fall by the wayside because they've taken SFA money/local supporters & sponsors for granted.

I am annoyed that ambitious Duns and Coldstream have not been allowed in, but good luck to the two that made the grade. As for the junior clubs, have to admit that before I started reading Pie and Bovril, I don't think the term crossed my mind more than once or twice a year. Just not part of football culture down here. Whether they deserve to be part of the nation's football culture at all, I doubt, as they don't seem to have much of a plan to improve football from grassroots up.

I was there a year and a half ago.

there is a train station 5-10 mins walk from the ground.

No idea which side of the tracks it lies on but some would say on the wrong side.

The M8 goes through Glasgow so everywhere in Glasgow is (relatively) near it.

There is not a bad pub at the ground although Grim would have to go further afield for a CAMRA one.
